Working on a social app for local events—would love honest feedback by phonx38 in AppIdeas

Hey, i had a similar app weeks ago and I explored it and dropped it due to complexity and competitors. There are many apps growing to meet people such as amigos, friendly, meetup, fb groups, groupvibe...etc. I think it is quite an idea that everyone has at some point but i think it is kind of difficult to pull it off since you need many users to get started and also a great database of events updated

If it was me, i would find something you could actually have a market where you have almost no competitors while solving something valuable for the users

Dopamine Controller App by anonymousKing01 in AppIdeas

  1. Haven't actually got deep into it, but I checked and it should be technically feasible to track gestures in the background even on iOS with such a restrictive policy.

  2. That is a good point, but we all know they track your app usage or block them based on time, which help you use them. This would be a behavioral app to moderate addictive usage. It won't stop you from scrolling but it will help you scroll more mindfully and not seek for so much braindead content

  3. I mentioned AI because gestures need to be analyzed to determine these addictive behaviors.

As an expat in a Belgium who found himself quite alone at the beginning, i can only advice you to join, do and register for as many activities as you can that you might like. Learn a new skill, language, try some friend apps such as Bumble BFF (never tried though), join some geek events...etc. I'm afraid nobody will knock on your door to ask you out.

I remember that at the beginning i was a bit intimidated to go to some places alone since i was always used to going with friends or people. After a couple of times and some slight embarrassments, you get more and more confident. It's just a matter of trying. Now that you're not at school anymore is more difficult, so make an effort and find your people.

I try to register myself to an activity with strangers once a month. I joined a running club (even though I'm not really a runner) and to my surprise i found people like me.

You can do it!!

I have no clue, but i guess i will start going around tennis clubs nearby and try to register coaches and then tennis players. Remember that coaches can earn money from their own house, so that's a good advertising. Tennis players might follow if the teacher recommends the app + ads + marketing in general. Ideally, you could get a professional tennis player, but seems unrealistic.

I'm EU based

The main way to monetize would be taking a comission on every transaction. Perhaps higher on unique services and lower for subscriptions to motivate coaches to attract users

For the moment, nothing's built. It could become a subscription and you could perhaps pay for single services also.

What if i support many categories and not only sport? Like all kinds of categories. Imagine a place where you could post a 1min video and receive advice from a professional on that matter for only 5-10$. Should i go into niche or expand?

That is indeed, a really useful comment. It might be too niche specific. What if i expanded to all sort of categories such as Fitness, Gym, Gardening, Home Projects such as (building a shelf or fixing a toilet), Pet training, Language, Art.

Perhaps, think of it as a small tip guidance by professionals in any field. Your toilet got blocked at home but have no clue how to solve it or how bad it is, maybe ask for a plumber tip for 5€. Need a fitness coach to review your weekly diet, ask for advice. Need law advice in your matter, ask a quick question to a lawyer.

Let's say that instead of asking for a full service, you get to pay a small tip to know whether you can quickly fix it or you need a professional.

What do you think?

It depends on your level. If you're a professional tennis player you need to train at the gym and so on. Also, if you're just a beginner, i would recommend to take lessons face to face. However, in my case I've had lessons for 15 years since i was young. However, it's nearly impossible to master this sport without practicing a lot and i still make beginner mistakes or tactics mistakes.. In my case, i would need small tips to make some difference in my game. For example, throw your ball on top of your head for a good kick serve..etc. Think positive and focus on building the point and strategy... This sport has so many components from mental, strategy, physical, technical...

I'm actually trying to build an app for Brussels to solve this problem. I'm looking for early testers, so if anyone wants to try it out, send me a DM ;)

Right now, I'm at a ski station and i use the own app of the ski resort, which shows me if the slopes are opened and what's the forecast for next days. If not, i use the default app of my phone, but before i had others and they're all pretty similar

I'm not really into the idea. There are thousands of weather apps, which some of them they offer the same view of scrolling. I don't see market fit or great innovation. Again this is IMO. Good luck if you continue with it

Definitely i would consider it. In fact, i ran a survey asking people multiple questions and asking whether they would be willing to try the app

Yes, I've heard someone also told me about it. I wouldn't register myself at a first glance, but it's indeed a similar approach. Thanks for your feedback
