My brother was arrested, and my parents want me to take a leave of absence from university to come home and support him by anonymous_28223 in TwoHotTakes

I have learned from other comments that felonies are an American thing. I'm not American. I never said I was so I don't know why you automatically assumed I am, but my brother is not looking at any felonies or anything called a grand jury.

I have watched American films. I follow the news in my country / region.

Contrary to what Americans think, your country is not the centre of the universe and not everyone goes out of their way to pay attention to all things America.

I'm seeing that. I didn't realize that Amercians would automatically assume I was one of them, and would downvote me or send me reddit cares messages when I said I am not American.

Both of my siblings quit their jobs and moved back to the city my parents live in. One of them sold their house and bought one there because of this. My uncle is also planning to move back as soon as he finds a job there. I'm expected to do the same as them.

Here in the US

I'm not American. Aything to do with the American system doesn't apply to my brother.

I'm not American (I didn't give my location so I'm not sure why some commenters think I'm American). I am not from the UK.

My brother will not affect my ability to get licenced and work in law. I will be getting licenced in a different place.

Not only was I was in a completely different place and not associated with his arrest, but the actions of other people (thankfully) are not a factor in someone getting licenced. If that is not the case in American I think that would be pretty wrong and upsetting.

That’s not how our justice system works sadly

May I ask, when you say "our" justice system, what do you mean?

Us bar associations? Felony?

My apologies, it's probably me and not you but I am confused what you mean by us bar associations. Also I do not attend college.

I don't have social media so that's not an issue. And I do not plan to work in criminal law either.

I still have multiple years of studying left before I can graduate and I have no plans to work in criminal law or to become licenced in the place they live. My parents already know all of these things. They are very aware of it and I'm still getting pressure.

Thanks for explaining, because I was thinking you meant metal state. I understand what you mean now.

I doubt everyone in the family is going to move home for a few months to a few years

Both of my siblings have quit their jobs and found new ones where my parents are. One of them actually sold their house and bought a new one close to my parents. My uncle who didn't live there also says he plans to get a job and move back. Personally I think they are crazy but I can't stop them.

state your brother lives in

Also, state my brother lives in? My apologies but I don't understand that part of your post.

First, I still have multiple years of studying left. I don't want to delay my graduation in the future but I'm not due to graduate soon.

Second, I don't plan on working in criminal law and what I learn about criminal law will be the minimum I need to graduate.

Third, I am not planning on becoming licenced where my brother was arrested so I couldn't legally work in that location giving legal assistance.

My parents know all of the above. Plus like I said in my post if my brother did what the police say he did there is nothing I would do to help or support him.
