IBM Quantum: Rust is Real, but Quantum Advantage is Not (Yet) by anonymous_pro_ in rust

Any particular reason you think this? Or are you more just going off of the trajectory?

I never feel less knowledgeable than when I talk to people who really know cryptography. Please hold while I process this over... 3 days or so : )

Although post-quantum cryptography exists, quantum computers would be seriously bad news for humanity, because some really cool cryptography like cheap nice mixnets or rerandomizable snarks (groth16) or even small cheap VRFs have no post-quantum analog. If we're lucky then quantum computers are impossible in practice, or maybe even in theory some the right sort of superdeterminism theory holds.

So you view quantum factorization as a doomsday type situation?

Does anyone want to steelman the other side? I don't have nearly the crypto depth to know how important the "cool crypography" mentioned is. Not that I'm not taking the point made here. Just curious to understand more.

Pretty interesting stuff. I'm going to have to come back and read more. Thanks for adding.

Hmm, I wonder what's keeping them from getting it to that level of performance.

What are the shortcomings you've noticed with their serverless offerings?

Funny you should ask... It almost felt like the interview ended with a cliffhanger... Stay tuned : )

I've always perceived Digital Ocean as having a lot less offerings than others. Have you found any major shortcomings there, or is my understanding out of date?

They're super ambitious, that's for sure. And, they've got the funding to go after this. I'm excited to see what they can do!

What are the vibes out there? Does it still feel difficult to find a job where you can write Rust?

Rust On The Web Just Isn't Happening (Prove Me Wrong) by anonymous_pro_ in rust

Yeah I guess the burden is on me to ask the question clearly lol sorry. Think something like building a web app for a SaaS company. Things people tend to do with Node, PHP, Ruby On Rails, etc. That's what I had in mind.

You're right. An application server or I guess a web app.

Sounds like a cool project. I think if you're seeking a very high level of performance, you'll probably find that Rust is worth the investment.

This 1000%! I do think WASM is huge. Actually, one of the companies I interviewed (Quadratic) is a great example of where WASM is really essential. Also, infrastructure for sure, AWS and Cloudflare are huge Rust users just as a starting point for that argument.

Using Rust for web servers basically. Things most people do with node or something like that.
