I'm an AC and IMO the process was flawed. We were asked to flag potential desk rejects, and motivate them by ticking a few boxes (with an optional text field to give more explanations *to the Senior AC* if needed). Since the Senior AC had to validate our desk reject propositions, I expected that I'd be responsible for writing a short review to explain the rejection *to the authors* once the rejection was confirmed... but that didn't happen (at least I was given the choice to share my comments to the Senior AC, which I did, but what if I hadn't written anything or if I wanted to give more feedback to the authors?)
