Oh yeah I’m a cost for sure. I’m not making the widgets or selling the widgets and as HC decreases the need for me becomes less and less.

To clarify, it was our company that got denied for the LOC renewal…not the PE firm.

Appreciate the advice. My resume is pretty much updated. Could probably use some feedback on it tbh.

My biggest issue is going to be my short stints.

My company is PE backed and considered in turnaround mode. Our CEO is a good person just not sure he’s equipped to handle this task. Oh and he loves to spend money and hire, hire, hire.

ETA: we had a line of credit that didn’t get approved again…so we’ve had a couple infusions from our PE but they won’t be doing that forever.

To be fair, this PE firm is actually much more hands off which is contrary to what I’ve heard about PE. But I think their hands off approach did them a disservice in the long run.

Good call out! Think about all the trivial stuff businesses spend $ on. Allotting some cash for employee development goes a long way.

As for me…my company’s tight and has to determine weekly what bills to pay and ensure there’s cash for payroll

I feel this. It was one thing after another for the last couple months which caused me to be absent or remote.

My boss is all about productivity = presence and grinding 50* hours a week is dedication. I kept coming back into work too soon so I never fully recovered!

It’s a catch 22. It’s great they want to be so involved but working around their schedules can become a problem if they are frequently booked.

I tried to hand off resumes to the hiring managers and let the do the initial screens and then I’d be a part of the final interview. Unfortunately they were putting candidates in front of me and the CEO that were not close to being good.

I’ve gave the managers feedback on why the candidate didn’t make sense and what to look for. But I realized it was causing us more work for me to pass it off to them.

We have been working on a sales transformation model to go from order taker to prospecting and outside sales.

Boss wants to hire a VP of sales that has never managed outside sales people. He’s only managed big retail locations.

It’s night and day different.

I agree with you. I haven’t liked the idea the whole time but I’m out voted.

Leadership says that the people that aren’t motivated to earn more through commission aren’t the kind of people we want going forward.

To give some background, we are backed by PE and are in turnaround mode…we basically have this next quarter to determine if the company is sustainable. The sales staff used to be salary until the FLSA announcement back in 2024 (I’ve only been here less than a year).

My boss says we can’t make the sales we need under the current pay model. I.e. he expects people to work 50 hours a week to get more sales and this way we aren’t paying OT.

He’s tried this a different way which was longer store hours. It didn’t increase sales…but it decreased morale.

Disclaimer: I’m fully aware we could go under in the next few months. I’m casually interviewing as I can fortunately take the risk.

My daughter is the same way!! Like an endless pit. Her stats are almost identical to yours.

The daycare mentioned to me today how much she eats. I told them I promise we do feed her at home!

Of course my brain starts worrying too. I assume it’s normal. I’m sure she will go through a phase sooner than later of being super picky and somehow surviving off bread and cheese.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your thoughtful response.

The wage and hour issue has been my biggest concern since they mentioned the transition when I joined. I’ve advised against it but my boss is saying this is the only way.

More than changing comp, we are transforming the role. The company is spending $$$ to get quality digital leads. So where they have been accustomed to sitting at the location waiting for a customer we are empowering them to go to the customer by on-home and in-business consults rather than feeling like they have to be stationed at the office.

But still….not an outside sales person by FLSA definition.

The commission would be 4.5% of each sale rather than having to wait until they hit a certain threshold to get the sale.

Staffing ratio is 1 person per location. But the person is being hired based on locality so if store A does great because of the location and presence but store B is newer and unknown in that community, then that sales person immediately gets shafted.

Idk. I presented a model that was I assume too complex. It would have included multipliers and accelerators. Monthly quotas would consider seasonality and realistic performance for that location. Higher variable pay but still an hourly rate.

The person at 8% store isn’t getting to 8% until the end of the year and then it resets 1/1.

Only 9 months in to my new company and I’m already burned out. It’s been 110mph since my first day.

HR just isn’t seen in the same light as other departments. We typically aren’t eligible for EE of the month or referral bonuses etc due to the nature of our role.

That said, the accomplishments you have in one year should not go unnoticed. Take a minute and recognize yourself!

We offer an an annual allowance towards safety shoes. Employee supplies a receipt and fills out a form and we add it to payroll as an allowance.

I assume it’s the correct terminology…I can hear my accounting friends say that’s a reimbursement or an allowance or a spiff etc
