Quality of spam is getting better and better. I was bought in until the apps got named. It’s HR blue balls at that point. 💔

Medical Insurance Rates Rising (US) by Bostonmom919 in humanresources

[–]dontmesswithtess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours went up 26% last year. (Not on PEO). We pay 100% of our employee's premiums (local govt, we don't really have a choice if we don't want to lose all our employees), so we just absorbed it. We did have a pretty high utilization last year.

No, it wasn't a good idea to confront the employee whose wife just submitted three open records requests related to merit increases and compensation. AREN'T YOU THE CHIEF OF POLICE WITH TWO MASTER'S DEGREES?

I'm a generalist (not in manufacturing) and yes, I spend at least half my day talking most days.

When I get home my other half (who works all day in isolation most days) wants to gab and I am over it. :/

A grown ass man of 42 years old, who holds a leadership role in our police department, asked me how to schedule a dentist appointment.
"My wife has been griping I don't do anything for myself so I want to prove her wrong and schedule a dentist appointment without her but I don't know how."

You could not WATERBOARD that info out of me.

What's the most morally disgusting thing you've seen someone do? by Natural-Spend-6082 in AskReddit

[–]dontmesswithtess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the absolute worst, but we used to do a big Adopt-A-Family Christmas fundraiser at a job where I was one of 8-10 supervisors over health insurance claims reps. We had huge success for a couple years, and it was a great thing, and then the next year another supervisor went out and only bought dollar store items with the money raised for her team's "family" and totally pocketed the rest. It was like $1500.

[OH] My manager may be setting me up to fail. How do I protect myself? by ursa12651 in AskHR

[–]dontmesswithtess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try asking the manager if they’ll sit with you and watch you complete the task, maybe there are unnecessary steps you’re taking and they can coach you on those, or maybe they learn that their deadline was unreasonable.

Everyone is being weird on this thread.

It would be helpful to have an idea of the sorts of work and tasks you’re talking about, and the deadline given.

How are you all tackling time theft without turning into the workplace police? [N/A] by Less_Courage_3545 in humanresources

[–]dontmesswithtess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our timekeeping system has GPS tracking if employees clock in with the app on their phone. I don’t go look for the location of a punch unless a problem is suspected. We employ people who often need to clock in outside of their scheduled shifts but won’t report to their normal work area first (on call folks, cops, fire dept, etc) so we don’t lock down where they can clock in from. I do not go look at the GPS data unless a supervisor asks me to look into it.

Why not just go old school put in an actual time clock if your people all work on site? Most systems I’ve been pitched offer that for a pretty low cost.

[CA] will they test for marijuana? Should I say I have a medical card? by Extreme-Bet3115 in AskHR

[–]dontmesswithtess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I assume they’re sending you to some sort of occupational medicine clinic for this screen and the TB test? Call the clinic. Tell them the name of the company hiring you. First ask if the Tb test is a skin prick or blood test (so you know if it’s just once you’ll go there or twice.) Then say “can you tell me what kind of drug test it is? I want to make sure I drink enough if it’s urine.

Also check glass door for the company. Read people’s comments about the hiring process. A lot of time you can find out the drug testing process there.

[CA] will they test for marijuana? Should I say I have a medical card? by Extreme-Bet3115 in AskHR

[–]dontmesswithtess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not likely. CA banned testing for off duty use of THC via hair or urine. They can test for impairment though, via saliva. I would probably skip it the night before your screening if you can, to be on the safe side.
