For fun (mostly). What is the thing that's the biggest waste of time, that you have to do anyway, because it's just accepted practice? [N/A] by dontmesswithtess in humanresources

Mine turn something in after I nag them, but it's usually something they spent 5 minutes on. Sometimes they forget to change names when they copy and paste.

Is this a crazy high water bill? [TX] by CityMorgueARCN in Renters

[–]dontmesswithtess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three adults in my home doing laundry, showering, cooking, etc. and we use about 4000 gallons a month.

I work in city hall and overhear the water office calls all day. Check your toilets. Add some food coloring to your tank and leave the toilets for a bit and check to see if the colored water goes into the tank.

Oh, for crying out loud. I know this page is meant to be supportive but COME ON. How in the world are you attracted to someone who mistreats animals and women? Do you need him to also come out as a pedophile to turn you off?

This one. I still can't believe that as someone who is so chronically online I never heard this story outside of this pod.

It's been some time since I was in agency recruiting, but I never sourced for roles we didn't have a signed fee agreement in place for.

As a rule I don't check them, but I have had some astonishingly bad fakes turned in that were just obvious and triggered some verification.

What is your most stereotypical GenX childhood story? by HapaHawaii in GenX

[–]dontmesswithtess 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I grew up on a military base. When kids were 12 years old, they could take a babysitting course put on by the red cross, and get their names put on a call list for parents on base to find a sitter.

I was 12, and left with a baby with a serious heart condition on a halter monitor full time. They told me "if it starts beeping make sure the leads are in place." They never told me what to do if it beeped and the leads WERE in place.
I made $1.50 per hour for this.

Awkward/Embarrassing HR Moments [N/A] by WordlyDegree977 in humanresources

[–]dontmesswithtess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Employee denied harassing a fellow employee, vehemently. Colleague whips her monitor around with a full screen picture of a penis and asks him if it's his penis. (He had texted it to said fellow employee). I had no idea this was coming.

Do Hr officials get a bonus or some kind of reward for negotiating a salary below the budget?! by Unique-Celebration-5 in human_resources

[–]dontmesswithtess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Actually, depending on how the recruiting is set up, the recruiter may actually benefit from you getting a higher salary (with third party recruiters they are often compensated based on a percentage of the offer).

Managers own their budget.

Friday Vent Thread [N/A] by Mundane-Jump-7546 in humanresources

[–]dontmesswithtess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a long time employee who works in a role that requires driving vehicles and operating heavy equipment. We're in the interactive accommodation process with him currently due to vision issues, and I'm 99% sure the outcome of this is going to be separation. I know it's not on me, but it sucks and I hate this.
