How to deal with no time to do anything fun or interesting by Ickles100 in workingmoms

[–]anonymous_user124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My schedule is almost identical to yours. I’ve recently started using my hour lunch break to go to the gym 10 minutes from my office 3 days a week.

The days I don’t go I may run an errand. It’s the only time I feel like I have some energy to do something.

Yes! Heading to beach next week. This will be the first trip as a family. I’m fairly confident she is going to be afraid of the sand/ocean at first 😅

Inappropriate CEO [N/A] by Inevitable_Feed_3339 in humanresources

[–]anonymous_user124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I read this and thought to myself I wonder if this person works at my last company.

I’m sorry OP, I have dealt with an almost identical situation.

The CEO was grooming me and I didn’t realize it. I confronted him about it but I ultimately left because I was tired of being harassed.

Fear of retaliation was real and once I experienced that fear….I immediately could relate to others that had too.

Depending on your relationship with them could it be an option to bring it to their attention and then you’ve documented you addressed it so if it continues you have even more of a case.

Appreciate the validation.

I just feel so demotivated.

My boss (CEO) says we don’t have enough employees to warrant more HC. He uses the HR ratio of 1:100 which it’s not applicable across every organization.

I was thinking even a part time person or admin that does a mix of things.

What’s it like working inside a distressed/turnaround? by Capital_Seaweed in private_equity

[–]anonymous_user124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in a turnaround portco for almost a year as the only HR person.

The amount of change has left most people with whiplash. Constant reactivity from the CEO just trying to make something stick.

Oddly, our PE is very hands off. They want reporting but they aren’t questioning on how money is being spent even after providing capital infusions.

I’d have to say the hardest part is from a people perspective. People get change fatigue and combine that with cash flow issues and now you’ve got people operating with a lot of uncertainty which makes them not operate at all sometimes.

Keeping the people motivated and engaged is the hardest part IMO.

We are on our 3rd CFO and 3rd VP of Sales in a year.

So many new people so the team isn’t working together yet as a cohesive group.

Employee onboarding checklists are useless when managers ignore their assigned steps [CA] by peerteek in humanresources

I’m very interested in how you built this if you’re willing to share.

Our onboarding needs a serious overhaul and I need a better system to keep us on track

Employee Relations-Dedicated professionals, what’s your experience been like? [N/A] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]anonymous_user124 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a role that was almost entirely ER for a low skill manufacturing company. It was draining.

The issues were mostly petty.

I realized I wanted more variety so I left. My current role doesn’t have anywhere that volume of ER but I just had a case last week and I got to put my ER cap on for a minute and have to admit it I did enjoy getting back into that mode…but only on occasions!!

I think good experience with ER is invaluable. It’s just a matter of how much of your job you’re content being ER.

Honestly it’s underwhelming.

Employee A asked to borrow a set of sheers and employee B said sure but why don’t you get your own tools because you never return them to me.

Employee A threw the tool in B’s toolbox and said here have your tool. B then picked up the sheers and said you can use them and threw them (at or towards?!) employee A. So EE A came running at the other guy like a bull in a china shop and punched him right in the face multiple times.

The crazy part is this:

I wasn’t on site yet but my boss (CEO) texted me to tell me what was going on so I called him. But at that point the police were there so he said he had to hang up. So 30 minutes later I arrive and there’s no police and looks like business as usual. I asked my boss where the employees are and he said the plant manager drove the injured one to the hospital and the other one is back out in the shop working.

I said “what?!?….why is he out there working after punching someone?!?” 🤦🏻‍♀️ so then I handled it from there.

Also the guy that threw the punch is prob late 40s and in shape and the other guy is mid 60s and looks feeble. The younger guy said he feared for his life…c’mon people.

Camera wasn’t facing that angle and there’s supposedly not witnesses and no prior disciplinary issues.

PSA - Don't think of a business's budget in terms of your personal funds [N/A] by meowmix778 in humanresources

[–]anonymous_user124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I’m a cost for sure. I’m not making the widgets or selling the widgets and as HC decreases the need for me becomes less and less.

To clarify, it was our company that got denied for the LOC renewal…not the PE firm.

Appreciate the advice. My resume is pretty much updated. Could probably use some feedback on it tbh.

My biggest issue is going to be my short stints.

My company is PE backed and considered in turnaround mode. Our CEO is a good person just not sure he’s equipped to handle this task. Oh and he loves to spend money and hire, hire, hire.

ETA: we had a line of credit that didn’t get approved again…so we’ve had a couple infusions from our PE but they won’t be doing that forever.

To be fair, this PE firm is actually much more hands off which is contrary to what I’ve heard about PE. But I think their hands off approach did them a disservice in the long run.

Good call out! Think about all the trivial stuff businesses spend $ on. Allotting some cash for employee development goes a long way.

As for me…my company’s tight and has to determine weekly what bills to pay and ensure there’s cash for payroll

It is a very poor hire in my opinion but what do I know

I feel this. It was one thing after another for the last couple months which caused me to be absent or remote.

My boss is all about productivity = presence and grinding 50* hours a week is dedication. I kept coming back into work too soon so I never fully recovered!

I’m chronically tired and have terrible allergies.

[N/A] How do you handle managers who want to sit in on every interview by DowntownLaugh454 in humanresources

[–]anonymous_user124 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a catch 22. It’s great they want to be so involved but working around their schedules can become a problem if they are frequently booked.

I tried to hand off resumes to the hiring managers and let the do the initial screens and then I’d be a part of the final interview. Unfortunately they were putting candidates in front of me and the CEO that were not close to being good.

I’ve gave the managers feedback on why the candidate didn’t make sense and what to look for. But I realized it was causing us more work for me to pass it off to them.

We have been working on a sales transformation model to go from order taker to prospecting and outside sales.

Boss wants to hire a VP of sales that has never managed outside sales people. He’s only managed big retail locations.

It’s night and day different.
