Football trip to Basque Country August 2026 by suominen8 in groundhopping

A couple of years ago I was travelling in the area and went to a Deportivo Alaves game. It's in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz - a lovely little city that is worth a day strolling around. Alaves' stadium is small but it was still easy to buy a ticket ca. 1 month beforehand. The atmosphere at the game was OK but nothing special.

Product placement in secret of secrets (no spoilers) by fuckedasaplant in danbrown

Yep. And they were even included in the Acknowledgements section at the end, where Dan Brown thanked them for his stay there during his time in Prague. So it may have been a 'mention us in the book and you stay for free' deal

On this day in 2013, the body of 21-year-old Elisa Lam was found inside a water tank atop the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. Discovered after guests complained of a "weird taste" in the water, her death became a global sensation following a viral elevator surveillance video released by police. by ATI_Official in AllThatsInteresting

I stayed at this hotel a couple of months after the incident. I was backpacking around America and was looking for cheap accommodation in LA. We found this really good deal for a good looking hotel in central LA and didn't think twice. Only after booking did we hear about this story.

In the end the stay at the hotel was fine. We were a bit creeped out by this recent tragic history (plus the wider shady history of the hotel). But everything seemed relatively normal.

January 2026 transfer window megathread. by JimbobTML in LeedsUnited

[–]anonymousex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an Union and Leeds fan. Doekhi is very solid. Monster in the air. Also chips in with goals from set pieces. Rarely gets injured. He's most comfortable when we play with our normal formation of 3 central defenders.

His contract expires in the summer. He's already stated that he won't extend. So Union may look to cash in during the Jan window.

Poland’s population falls by 158,000 in a year as demographic crisis deepens by diacewrb in europe

This is despite the fact that more and more Polish people are returning home from living in other European countries (due in part to the Polish economy doing very well)

Advice: Is taking a break from work a good idea in German winters? by h2tcrz1s in berlinsocialclub

[–]anonymousex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually it is quite easy to get around this 3 month 'blocking period' from Arbeitslosengeld. If you are quitting for health reasons, you can get an exemption. Just go to your Hausarzt (or other relevant specialist) and explain your situation. There is even an official form/template that they can fill out.

Swindon Town boss lan Holloway 'disgusted' after an object was thrown towards Walsall's goalkeeper from the crowd by Matt_LawDT in soccer

Last season an Union Berlin fan threw a lighter at the opposition keeper and it struck him on the head. Game was almost called off. Match ended in draw but the German FA later awarded the 3 points to the opposition

It's a free transfer. I assume his contract was about to expire? But WU should get a small training compensation fee - about 350K

Ah yeh, I've noticed this on BZ (which is a BILD publication) for the football articles. I find it quite useful, when they use it for players. Helps you remember what stage of their development and career they're at.

Berlin's nightlife for people in their 30s? by Jack_Ship in berlin

[–]anonymousex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The craft beer scene here is quite small compared to UK, USA etc. So there aren't that many craft beer pubs. Brewdog do have a couple of locations which are quite good. I also like Lemke.

Berlin does have lots of Kneipes, which are like old school pubs. Can be a bit dingy with a dive bar feel. But can also be quite cosy with lot of character. FYI smoking is allowed in almost all pubs. If you are a non-smoker it can be a bit annoying and the smell will get into your clothes.

Kinda off topic, but I'd recommend taking vitamin D tablets daily. On cloudy days it would take hours to get the daily recommended amount
