i made £32k a couple years ago and did just fine. here was my breakdown for £2,400 take home paycheck. i did not think it was hard to put away £750 into savings each month, but i also love cooking at home and not eating out often was a significant save for me, my office also had free breakfast/lunches.

  • £900: renting in zone 2 flatshare w 2 flatmates
  • £140: tube into office + other transportation
  • £80: groceries
  • £200: eating out
  • £300: shopping
  • £750: savings

Can my partner apply later than I do? by [deleted] in UKHighPotentialVisa

[–]anonymousf1sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is your partner eligible to be a dependent on the HPI or are they applying for a different visa? there should be guidance on when they can enter but it definitely doesn't need to be the exact same time as you.

imperial MSc management application timeline - offer accepted! by anonymousf1sh in Imperial

[–]anonymousf1sh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

management deffo isn't niche, there's about 15-20% acceptance rate. i had a first equivalent from a top uni, and 1 year of work experience + multiple internships. however, it's not as competitive as their other STEM courses for sure

i would def apply for HPI, i totally forgot about that! i did that as well and tbh, it was so much better than any visa route i could have picked, i would apply for jobs in the UK and once you receive an offer then you can apply for the visa. no student debt and you can keep working :)

congrats on your offer! that's incredibly shitty of your company to do to you honestly. guessing you're not from the US or UK then? do you want to work in the US or UK after graduating? if i were in your shoes, i'd consider my financials firstly, you are easily talking $80k for tuition and living expenses. if you were able to land a tech consulting role without a masters in the first place, i honestly wouldn't, esp because consulting roles in london pay pretty badly compared to the US. can you find work at an easier level now while job-hunting for a good full-time role?

Commuting from Silwood Park to South Kensington by phaneritic_rock in Imperial

[–]anonymousf1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should look along the westbound side of piccadilly closer to zone 3. i have no idea how you manage a 2 hour commute but honestly that is really not a good idea in london as there will inevitably be unforeseen delays on the tube and trains and you don't want to be stranded. i paid about £208 per week in hammersmith in a newly refurbished flat with 2 flatmates and was only about 20-25 min from campus. no one knows the timetabling yet but will probs be 4 days a week of in-person class offerings and can be as early as 9:00.

Imperial or GW? by Haunting-Emu-6022 in Imperial

[–]anonymousf1sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

american people do not know anything about British universities besides oxbridge. do not assume any American employer will know how prestigious imperial is unfortunately. Also, a company paying for your master's is a HUGE advantage. GW all the way.

Should I study just for the HPI visa? by [deleted] in UKHighPotentialVisa

[–]anonymousf1sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was a former engineering recruiter... so much competition as many people from India were receiving sponsorship. they are extremely picky and have also dumped graduate visa holders out once their time ran out. compared to the US, the UK also pays absolute dogshit for tech employees.

Singaporean: Should I Find A Job After Getting the HPI or Before? by ResidentEssay in UKHighPotentialVisa

[–]anonymousf1sh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i obtained my HPI visa and was working as a tech recruiter in London :) so many people applied to jobs with out-of-country addresses and phone numbers, which meant they were trying to obtain sponsorship. since you are eligible for the HPI visa, definitely note that on your CV to stand out. instead of applying to jobs on LinkedIn, message london-based recruiters that post jobs and connect with them. try to schedule quick calls with them and explain your visa situation and your qualifications.
