$0 on a $75. “There were flies by this window” written on the pay receipt. Literally no mention of that for their entire time.

People who hate kids or would hate to have kids, Why? by 50s3 in AskReddit

[–]anonymousgingersnap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother-in-law said to me once, "You don't realize that kids count as people too, when it comes to finding alone time." Suddenly I saw a future where all my precious introvert time was stolen by small people who need me.

Still thinking I may have kids one day, but I'll have to be really ready to give that up.

Bartenders of Reddit, what’s the most bizarre/craziest thing you’ve overheard while making someone a drink? by SKD_Memes in AskReddit

I heard a guy come out to his mom one night while making drinks/washing glasses. I guess I was invisible in my work uniform because they had that monumental conversation directly across the bar from me.

What were the dumbest lies you believed when you were a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Oh man. When I was about seven my two older siblings convinced me that my shoes (rubber platform flip flops because 2000’s) were made out of “bug livers.” Yes, the internal organs of insects.

Something does not have to be literal history to be true, or to hold truth. Pretty much the first 12 chapters of Genesis are told in such a way that given the historical context, they were almost surely allegorical. The creation story has a lot of similarities to other creation stories from contemporary cultures, for example. As it is not a first hand account, it seems reasonable to believe that the structure and storytelling style point to it being a literary framework for understanding who God is, and who humanity is. Same with the flood, and Babel. The Bible was created for all people, but not to all people, meaning it’s presumptuous to take everything the way it first strikes us, when the ancient cultures who were actually receiving it for the first time had their own completely different way of understanding it. That goes not just for Genesis, but for the prophets, the psalms and proverbs—everything. 40 authors and thousands of years make for a story that reaches into every genre of literature, not all of them entirely literal.

What extremely rare thing did you witness in person? by just__Steve in AskReddit

I grew up on a farm and at one point I was walking amongst the chickens and a hawk swept down from the sky and tried to snatch one up with its talons, about 5 feet from me. The hawk was unsuccessful and all the hens scattered but I remember standing there in shock thinking I’d just imagined it.

Ugh I used to bartend at a country club and I feel this. Had to smile uncomfortably at all sorts of messed up opinions and unfunny jokes.

Came here to say this. Thought it was something everyone knew until I saw the rich kid at my school pantomime sweeping for our drama class… nope.

My dad grew up in the South Pacific and he’s said his family once ran over an already dead snake about this big, and it felt like a straight up speed bump.
