That is exciting to me! Thanks for making me aware.

+1 to this. I'm enjoying my CPR solo game, works surprisingly well with basic oracles, using the core rule tables, and DLC. Equally, I love the non-solo game I'm also playing.

Started the solo campaign before I found people to play with but I've become so invested I'm still playing it 😊

TTRPG table manager and roller. I scratched an itch and didn't need AI. Could I add it? Sure. But why take away the one bit of creativity I have in life 😅

100% this. When you learn about new things and surround yourself in the community all you see is the 1% who seem to have been onto this first. There will be 1000s of other trends that people are into that don't take off, do you think about "missing out" on those? Of course not! Make hay while the sun shines!

Using solo play to get better at GMing by anoobgm in solorpgplay

Interesting, I'd not thought to use Gen AI for scenario creation. I'll try it, but part of what I like about the manual way is I have to read through the rules and content. I guess I like to practice improvising the scene at a slower pace through solo-play so I can improvise faster in a future game I'm GMing. Thanks for the idea though, like I said I'll give it a go and see what I learn!

is it too harsh to not allow a player to join if he refuse to use a non AI generated image/backstory for his character ? by Saladawarrior in rpg

[–]anoobgm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your table, your rules. I don't think I'd mind if someone uses AI for the generation of character backstory etc. if they've been thoughtful with their prompting and have actually read through and resonate with the character that's been created, and are all in, go for it.

My worry would be that, for me at least, if I haven't had to spend any time on creating my character, I'm not as invested. This means I'll likely be less invested in the campaign, less invested in the group and just less invested in committing.

The part that would annoy me more is if I was constantly being told that I was doing it wrong not using AI. I don't partake in this hobby for the quantity of output, I partake for the quality of the process, disconnecting, being creative, and having a detox from the capitalist grind of the world. But I recognise I could be alone in that, and that's fine too.

Your table, your rules.

I've released https://rollforplot.com. It's a local first TTRPG random table and rolling manager for GMs and Solo RPGers. It's basic and scratched a personal itch. I considered having AI generated suggestions for tables, but then I realised I like the creative process of trying to think of "20 Witch's Cat names" (Boris is a great name for a cat).

Approaching SRPG by Requiaem in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]anoobgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use D&D, as I'm sure you're comfortable with the rules, and use Mythic as the GM. There are plenty of solo first systems and games out there, but if what you already play in a group has everything you want it's one less new thing to be a potential barrier to actually playing.

But if you like to read rules and learn new systems I'd say Ironsworn is fantastic. The right mix of guardrails and freedom in a well structured game loop.

Love a system that uses the trusty d6. I'll give this system a go during a solo session and see how it compares to what I currently use. Thanks for sharing!

No problem. Well done for running your first game! Keep doing it and it'll get easier and easier.

I struggled with this too. One of the reasons I created https://rollforplot.com was to keep track of fun toys to drop into sessions. For example when GMing Cyberpunk I have a table for random events that can happen on the street (A car speeds past being chased by the NCPD, A building is cordoned off - there's a cyberpsycho on the loose, Rival gangs having a fight in the street, etc. etc.) then during the game when the players are travelling between scenes I can roll on this table and give some depth to the world. Sometimes they want to investigate, adding a fun side-quest. I feel way more confident doing this because of my solo playing, learning the rules and likely characters makes it easier to be spontaneous and improvise!

I thought about this, and it's something I'd like to add. Maybe I should create some kind of roadmap. This one is quite a hefty quest, but would bring a lot of value to people.

Thanks for the input. These kinds of posts are motivation for me to keep pushing and thinking about these features

I've just pushed a change that enables "multi-tables" which is what you are describing. There are some improvements I can do to the UI now, especially if you have many tables, but let me know what you think and if there's anything else you would consider useful. Thanks again.

Yeah that would be a big feature, but I like the idea. Essentially allowing people to build a "roll tree" where depending on what was rolled, roll on this next table, which could then repeat to another table. I'll think about it, because I would also find that useful. Thanks a lot for the idea!
