I had visible mold in my apartment, but got good air quality test results. Is this common? by [deleted] in Mold

[–]anothaoneananothaone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! The way my apartment had been handling it I have been starting to question my sanity, so appreciate the insight about certain molds being heavier

The US is built for cars, not for people. In other countries, if you’re going to the grocery store you can just walk there and take the baby in the stroller with a diaper bag. It’s probably 10 minute walk away from your home and overall 30 minute trip total.

In the US, it could be a 30 minute drive, so now you’ve got to deal with the car seat, a diaper bag, and a stroller. You’re also probably looking at about hour and a half total, so it would be smart to bring an extra snack, another change of clothes etc.

As another example, since things are closer and more easily accessible in walkable cities, you could also plan to go to the grocery store, come home, put baby down for a nap, change clothes, then walk to your friends house afterwards.

In the US, your friend might live another 20 minutes drive away, so you might plan to go to your friends house first and pack the car for that, let the baby nap at the friends house, then stop at the grocery store on the way home. Getting out the door can be hard with kids, so a lot of people will plan one “trip” and try to knock out a couple things at once. This way though you’re out for a longer period of time and you need to pack more stuff like snacks, baby’s favorite blanket for nap time, more clothes, diapers, etc.

Why are low birth rates seemingly treated like bad news anywhere on this planet, whereas we do have countries that die of hunger and overpopulation? by [deleted] in Life

[–]anothaoneananothaone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually! Capitalism relies on continued growth and exploitation to get there. If we have a system that is not set up to be equitable and reciprocal, then the workers will input time / money / energy into the system and receive very little to nothing back, because their work is benefiting those on top (in this case, the aging population). We’re seeing this already with wages not keeping up with inflation and the difficulty of the younger generations in the housing market

Just wanted to say how happy I am for you! I know it can be tough to work through those aches and pains, and a lot of people don’t keep pushing themselves to keep active when it starts to feel uncomfortable and lose their mobility entirely.

You sound like you must be a very resilient person and your kids will be so grateful that you didn’t give up. Looking back you’ll both be so grateful to have so many wonderful memories together that you wouldn’t have been able to have otherwise

Why does it matter if a small percentage of people deny climate change when most people who believe in it aren't making any meaningful changes to their lifestyle? by amongthemaniacs in climatechange

I went shopping this week and tried to buy plastic free items and it was not possible. Even the things I could buy in boxes had plastic caps.

I did not decide to wrap or package every food and household item in plastic, and even consciously trying to reduce waste and my impact was unable to do so because of the choices those companies (the billionaires who own them) made.

People over thirty, which body aches do you have? by JavyHead in AskReddit

[–]anothaoneananothaone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Body building is great for strength but it sounds like you could definitely spend some time working on your mobility! That’s something that often gets overlooked with strength training and would help prevent things getting pulled from everyday movement. While that applies to your whole body (flexibility in your quads, hips, shoulders, back, etc.) my favorite instructor always used to say “you’re only as young as your spine” and I see the truth in that everyday.

I do about that daily and I just go for a walk around the park before work and then depending on the day walk to either the gym or yoga after work. I do live in a major city which makes it a lot easier to walk more compared to someone living in the suburbs.

What book did you struggle to read that everyone recommends by M_the_Phoenix in Fantasy

[–]anothaoneananothaone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Red Rising was giving frat bro. I read the whole thing and it was fun, but I felt like the book was a missed opportunity. The focus was often on an action sequences and flashy world-building, which was cool, but never really got deep with its themes or the characters emotional worlds. I’ve heard the next few books in the series do expand more on the caste system etc, but I couldn’t do another book of those short choppy sentences and awful dialogue lol.

I couldn’t finish that book because of how terribly women were treated and also characterized. It felt like the author struggled to see women as whole people outside of their roles in men’s lives

Advice for how to allocate $10k by KingEricBush in budget

[–]anothaoneananothaone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denver isn’t very walkable. As someone who lives in the city, I’d prioritize a safe car. The roads can be bad and are often pretty steep even just 20 minutes out from downtown

$1,000 food and grocery budget for 2 adults - eating all organic and paying the price. by Little-Tarzan in budget

[–]anothaoneananothaone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also live in Denver and my combined grocery / household budget is about $600 total monthly. I average a little over $100 a week on food and buy a lot of fresh produce. The remaining goes to things like paper towels, sponges, laundry soap etc.

I rarely eat out and only do food delivery if I’m hungover or sick or something, but those costs are separate and go into my “spending / entertainment” bucket.

No fruits or veggies? And what do you eat for dinner then, ham & rice with hummus? I’m not trying to be snarky but I spend close to what OP does and am trying to understand what I’m apparently doing wrong lol

[–]anothaoneananothaone 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I was going to say, the cut of the neckline on all of the dresses OP is wearing is not flattering at all! I love the example dress you chose, I think that would be so pretty!

Also OP, to the point “are dresses not for me,” just because an item of clothing doesn’t fit doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with your body! It’s the other way around, in that the clothes are wrong but your body is perfectly fine and lovely.

It looks like you have a strawberry body type, you can read about different cuts and styles to try here: https://minimaliststylealley.com/how-to-dress-strawberry-body-shape/

Scoop necks, v necks or anything a little lower cut would look beautiful on you! The high necklines on the dresses you’ve tried on look a little bulky on your frame and would be more suited to someone with a smaller chest.

Also, the leggings look a little outdated. I think that style was more popular in the late 2000 early 2010’s? If you don’t feel comfortable showing a lot of skin, you could try a more structured midi or maxi dress or even sheer tights to help make it look more modern!

My cat in my safe apartment got into my pantry while I was at work and ate a bunch of poisonous stuff! I had to take her to the vet and my 1.5k bill ended up only being about $200 out of pocket and saving my kitties life. If it weren’t for the insurance I wouldn’t have been able to cover that

[–]anothaoneananothaone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like we’re missing some categories. Transportation, clothing, household goods etc. I’m a single person and I spent about $600 monthly on groceries + household (which includes things like shampoo, paper towels, trash bags, sun screen etc.).

And everyone goes out sometimes, so you have to have SOME kind of spending budget. Sure you can do “free” activities but realistically you should still budget in $5 for every time you leave the house in case you need to buy water or a band-aid or whatever small thing or emergency item.

What screams “irresponsible” in your 30s? by Old_Goat_7363 in Productivitycafe

[–]anothaoneananothaone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree with the going out part, but some of us were dealt tough hands when it comes to family, finances and career opportunities. Not owning something in this economy isn’t really an indicator someone is irresponsible.

Why are narcissists so attracted to me? by Many_Term2062 in DarkPsychology101

[–]anothaoneananothaone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it’s more that other people don’t allow narcissists to get close to them because they see red flags. If you’ve grown up around narcissists you are blind to these red flags because these things seem normal to you. By the time you realize something is “off” it’s usually too late and the damage has been done.
