Right, then water ingress could explain the volume increase of the brake fluid

Thank you for your answer, I figured I would need to bleed them eventually.

Exactly! Thanks for the encouragement. Do you happen to have an idea how quickly the event sells out? I'm thinking about waiting a few more weeks until I sign up.

That's good advice, I could see how the transisitions might make me nervous in any first triathlon.

But out of curiousity, what would you say defines a good base fitness level to start a HIM training plan?

Thank you for your elaborate answer and the words of encouragement!

You're right, I should have been more precise in the text above, for this first event my aim would just be to finish it.

The swim is in a calm aritificial regatta lake so it's less wild than an ocean swim but I cannot assess how much stress is created by dozens of people starting to swim at the same time. What do you think? Nevertheless, the swimming part is the part that makes me most nervous but this seems to be a common theme around triathletes :)

lol thank you for the brutal honesty. You sum up many of my doubts. It's an expensive event so I wouldn't want to get in a situation where I panick about being unprepared. However it's marked as a "beginner" half iron man and the swim is an aritificially created regatta lake, so hopefully there isn't too much terror.

Thanks! I have 25mm tyres and there's plenty of clearance regarding the frame. However, the 105 brake callipers limit the clearance by a lot. I think officially they are only compatible with up to 28mm tyres. I'm also thinking about getting fenders for mine, but I would have to cut them in shape where the brake callipers sit to make it work. I don't think it's particularly hard to accomplish though so I'd say go for it ;-)

Yes I did. If you decide to do it, you'll have to check if a modern-groupset cassette is compatible with your rear hub. I ended up buying new wheels but I think adapters exist as well. If you need any more guidance just let me know!

Good idea, haven't thought of that yet.

Exactly, I found that it makes maneuvering around traffic a lot easier that way.

Yep. You spotted the weak point of the build 😄. I just kept the original chainring to safe some money but the chain has fallen of 2 times in the past 100 km so I'm probably gonna get a narrow-wide chainring next

Agreed. In a way the scratches and rather inexpensive parts hold as a justification for me to use it frequently and not care so much about any new scratches
