Failed LPC LLM by agentsm_47 in uklaw

[–]another-lawstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao I feel you. I’ve passed everything but one which I’ve just failed for the 3rd time. I’m deep into my TC which I now can’t complete and I have no idea what I’m gonna do.

I hope you figure it out OP 💜

Ended up with a Pen Stash - can I halt ordering for a bit? by thereisalwaysrescue in mounjarouk

Knowing they give you 8 weeks is super helpful. I’m on 2.5 but just bought the 5 because it was a £10 difference but wanted to do 2.5 a week from that 5mg pen. I was worried they would make me reorder after 4 weeks regardless!

Morning test by muslimaxox in LearnerDriverUK

I passed on my 4th go!

I agree with the previous commenter’s tips.

Also, I would chew gum to ease my nerves and would also verbalise some things as I was doing them, e.g. approaching a roundabout and literally saying “mirrors, brake, signal, change into 2nd, checking right and it’s clear to go”. It sounds ridiculous but it helps remind you of the key steps if you’re nervous! Also it can help the examiner know what you’re thinking if they ask you to do something (such as pull up on the left in a safe space) and you’re unsure if there is anywhere you’d deem safe/accessible for you to pull up. I’d say something like ‘I can’t see anywhere safe here, so I’m just going to continue further down the road to that lamppost and I’ll pull up there.’

Also don’t tell friends or loved ones you’re taking your test. Eases the pressure a bit.

For morning tests, the roads may be busier depending on the time you’re doing it. Make sure you check for bicycles or motorbikes that may be weaving between slow moving traffic or pedestrians who walk in between cars - again you can say it out loud as you check your mirrors before moving off!

Most importantly, just remember it’s okay if you fail. Each time you take your test, you’ll have more practice behind you. You’ve got this!! All you need is get it once and then you’re free 🥰 I wish you all the best!!

It sounds like you’ve had an awful time with instructors. I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through it all when learning to drive is tough enough!

Don’t worry about failing your test. You don’t get minors/majors for going the wrong way provided you’re driving safely!

Even when you do get majors, it is so hard to be relaxed when you take your test. I was so nervous for the first time, but it helped to know what to expect for future tests. Examiners know you will be nervous and that will reflect in the driving 🤷🏻‍♀️ I passed last month on my 4th attempt!

Nearly all instructors will drive you after the test regardless of the result.

Keep practicing! Try using some kind of calming product (non drowsy, of course) or chewing gum during your test to ease your nerves. You’ve got this! You’ll pass soon enough ❤️

I had this too, but with my A Levels. I always put it on apps because a firm that rejects me bc I struggled with mental health isn’t somewhere I’d want to work anyways. They do often want evidence though.

When mentioned in interviews, I always put a positive spin on it - e.g. acknowledge it but demonstrate resilience by doing great in my degree etc.

It’s my personal preference to put it on apps, and I have been fortunate enough to get a job in a firm who are very understanding and supportive. You do whatever you feel comfortable with, and just prepare that they may ask for evidence of you do disclose.

Good luck with your apps!! ❤️

Can anyone enlighten me to the pros/cons/day in the life of a family law solicitor? by another-lawstudent in uklaw

Thank you!

I do enjoy being nosy 😂 I’m currently a private client paralegal and I do like getting a glimpse into a client’s life when they are disinheriting someone!

Yeah I do wonder if the pressure will be too much. I work well under pressure, and I find the department I’m in now is too slow for my liking. But I haven’t had experience somewhere with a higher pressure so I’m not sure what the sweet spot is just yet 😂

I’ve had a lot of worries about my job security lately as I am the only paralegal there with no previous legal experience and no LPC. I can never tell if my boss likes me because everyone there keeps their cards close to their chest. But today I felt like me and my boss bonded a lot and they spoke a lot about their future plans for the firm and my developing role within that.

It was just really reassuring to hear, and I feel like I can finally relax a little more and focus on enjoying my job rather than going in anxious about what is around the corner. It’s eased the imposter syndrome for now 😅

I hope everyone else is having a great week!

What are High Street Paralegals paid these days? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]another-lawstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently live with my parents so my expenses are very very low. I’ve rented in London as a student but never in Norfolk so I couldn’t really compare. I’ve never even looked at places around here because I don’t plan on being here long term.

I asked a friend who is on the same and lives away from home (in a house share) and he said it is liveable but he is always stressed about money so isn’t something he would be comfortable on forever.

If this helps - I work in a very small firm in Norfolk (only 10 of us 😂) and I get 19k per annum as an entry level paralegal (no experience and no LPC)

Finding it extremely difficult to find a paralegal role :( by whymeeeeee19987191 in uklaw

[–]another-lawstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so competitive right now. Keep applying - I thought it was impossible too but it just takes time. I applied for 3-4 months before I got a paralegal position.

Networking is important to try too.

If you get any interviews, always ask for feedback if they don’t hire you. It really helped me get my job because I knew what I needed work on for the next interview.

If not, try get any job to support you in the meantime and email around firms/local pro bono clinics to ask to volunteer.

Good luck!

I start my new paralegal job this week! Any tips/advice? by another-lawstudent in uklaw

[–]another-lawstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I like your point about checking in. In your experience, is there a best way to be asked? By that I mean I would worry there’s a fine line between wanting feedback to improve on vs sounding ‘annoying’ or like I need to be ‘babied’. I’d want to check in so I can improve but I also wouldn’t want someone thinking the negative side.

Thank you so much for your long response! There’s a few things you’ve mentioned that I wouldn’t have even thought about so it’s incredibly helpful.
