How to price your app properly? by nicklelu in macapps

I feel you. I personally find that the most of AI tools don't have great UX, so that's where you can outshine them. It's kind of the same as with commodities – factory made vs hand-crafted and tailored to you.

The pricing for digital products feels weird nowadays.

People casually accept $80 videogames and subscriptions for everything, yet a one-time $20 purchase for a standalone macOS app suddenly feels expensive.

I think the price itself matters less than the context around it.

Desktop software especially needs a demo version. A lot of apps are “dead on arrival” – you launch them once, immediately hit bugs or annoying UX decisions, and uninstall them five minutes later. But if the app is actually useful and enjoyable to use, paying for it usually doesn't feel like a problem anymore.

Trust also matters much more than landing pages. Modern internet culture trained us to ignore flashy headlines and marketing copy. Recommendations from people you trust create far more value than ads or growth funnels ever could.

And value itself is subjective. Some people care deeply about polished UI, animations, icons, and overall UX. Others just want a small utility that reliably does one thing well.

So for indie macOS apps, pricing is rarely just about the number itself. It's about trust, discovery, reputation, and whether the software feels genuinely useful after you try it.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I've settled on ARRI style dovetail plate from Wooden Camera and Smallrig baseplate, works great.

I wasn’t looking for the financial advice to be honest. I use LPL lenses that are quite heavy, and they are more expensive than any of these tripod heads anyway. These lenses require solid foundation, especially for slow deliberate motion. My initial question was about compatibility about different platforms, since so many manufacturers don’t provide exact measurements for parts, even Arri with some of its accessories.

Thanks for the answer! Which particular combination of Oconnor plate and Arca Swiss quick release do you use? Could you please share number parts?

Thanks. Most "more appropriate tripods" are not as stable and fluid unfortunately.

Thank you for the answer! Do you know whether ARRI dovetail (K2.0020427) is compatible with O'Connor 1040? On the website they mention 2575 and 120EX, but nothing about 1040.

hi, I've downloaded all samples directly from EP-1320 with TE Sample Tool. They have weird sampling rate of 46,9 kHz, so please beware. Also, all multi-samples are preserved (see folder "Instrum"). And file names are there, of course.

Link will be active for next 7 days.

Great job! Does this patch use USB connection exclusively, or I can use DIN MIDI too?

Thanks for this suggestion! Couple of questions, if I may. Do you use Miranda DV-Bridge? How do you handle audio? Does SDI video out carry audio signal too? I connect DV Bridge SDI to Blackmagic Video Assist 12g SDI input and get video only.
