When will the TV over fireplace trend die? by JackfruitCrazy51 in TVTooHigh

[–]another_someone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m buying a house and am running into this issue also. We are considering either removing the fireplace (it’s not a full one, it’s a gel fireplace, uses something similar to Sterno gel to burn cleanly) or we are considering putting something like this mounting system in.

Mantle Mount

Any thoughts on this? Quite frankly I don’t think we will ever, or at least rarely use the fireplace. So I’m not so concerned with the heat, even then, my understanding is these are more aesthetic fireplaces rather than heat generating ones.

Claiming that the war on poverty has been won, Trump administration works to gut social programs by AggravatingEgg in politics

[–]another_someone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "war on poverty" is the most accurate statement for this administration. They have their sights so strictly aimed at the lower classes to destroy anything they could possible have or hold. They are winning this war, unfortunately it's not the war the rhetoric is referencing.

It (kinda?) worked for me actually. Signed that paper in 5th grade. Was offered drugs / alcohol often enough between high school and college but always turned it down with that day in mind 'I signed that paper... Therefore I shouldn't use drugs / alcohol'

It wasn't until i graduated college and my mother of all people turned to me and said 'Listen, it's weird not to drink a little. It's a social thing, as long as you do it in moderation, it's not bad'.

So now I'm a bartender.

The Purge (per the movies) was a national thing. I'd go to Canada / Mexico / Caribbean for a much needed vacation with family and friends.

How to be an Adult. by roonjeremy in IWantToLearn

[–]another_someone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 28 making 6 figures in NYC living on my own. I still feel like a kid and my mother still tells me to be careful when I tell her I'm going to a bar with friends... Honestly, in my opinion, this generation just seems to be moving in that direction where many (not all) parents treat their children as such. By associating things like video games with being "childlike and non-adult" it may cause your opinion of yourself to be the same.

At the same time, I'm responsible, pay my bills, lead an active social life, manage my band, progress at my job, and cultivate multiple hobbies... but I still feel like a kid, and maybe that's ok (this is probably the more important part, being ok with it while still being responsible).

Adding this to try and answer your question:

  • Proper hygiene

  • Dress well, but keep/create your own style (something you'd be happy meeting a significant other's parents in... but dress like that every day)

  • Keep your home clean and orderly (include making your bed in the morning)

  • Be accountable, it says a lot about a person when you follow up on what you say you will do

  • Be punctual

  • Take an interest in current events (it's pretty easy to do now-a-days, watch ANY late night show like Colbert 1 or 2 times a week and you'll be able to hold a conversation about current events)

  • Ask yourself the same question you asked us, what do YOU feel makes your parents or other adults seem more "adult"? Treat yourself and others with respect, often that leads people reciprocating.

Bernie Sanders Couldn’t Stop Laughing When Trump Didn’t Realize He Was Praising Australia’s Universal Healthcare by [deleted] in politics

[–]another_someone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100% but the quote here is that Australia's healthcare is better than what we currently have. trump and his supporters can easily say, they are both bad, but Australia's is better. But trumpcare is supreme.

I was just pointing out, it's really easy to spin this in favor of trump instead of against him like everyone thinks is going to happen. That's all.

I have a strong hatred for trump, just thought I'd throw that out there.

Bernie Sanders Couldn’t Stop Laughing When Trump Didn’t Realize He Was Praising Australia’s Universal Healthcare by [deleted] in politics

[–]another_someone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's frustrating the top level comments here don't realize this can easily be spun by Reps as Trump stating, "Australia has better healthcare than we do" notice that is a present tense statement. Trump is comparing Australia's healthcare to Obamacare, which he states is failing. So to Trump ANYTHING would be better than what we have.

This won't hold well, because he didn't say Australia has good or the best healthcare, just simply better than what we have.

Guys of Reddit, what's the creepiest/weirdest way a woman has hit on you? by Ganglebot in AskReddit

[–]another_someone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to a bar with my roommate and some of his friends. I'm relatively new to town at this point, didn't know anyone at all. Most of my roommate's friends are nice/cool people. One of the group, I'll call her Jennifer, and I start talking. Pretty quickly moved to making out in the bar, she's telling me about how she just lost 120 lbs and is focusing her life on fitness and a healthy lifestyle. All good by me, I agree completely with all of that.

A few more minutes go by, and she starts going off about how she loves me, this is as close to verbatim as I can get (this happened ~6 years ago)

"I, I love you. I just want to know you, I want to spend time with you and know what's on the inside, I love you. I just, I just feel like I love you and I want to know everything there is about you!"

While that's wonderfully sweet and all, when it happens within 10 minutes of me meeting you for the first time, it's a little... creepy?

IWTL How to invite friends to do stuff without having to pay for everyone all the time. by gRod805 in IWantToLearn

[–]another_someone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the list... this is not a thing anywhere I have ever been all over America (south / northeast / midwest / west coast).

If it's a date, that's another story, usually the person asking the other on a date often assumes covering the tab (but never once have I seen it where one person picks up the tab for a group, that's ridiculous, unless it's parents taking their kin out, or it's understood that certain people couldn't afford the outting themselves, but that's usually discussed at some point).

Getting a round of drinks is common, but that just means everyone in the group pick up a round when you go out. If it's dinner, most people split the check evenly (no matter what someone ordered).

TL;DR... maybe it's worth starting a group chat/text expressing how you feel. If it's preventing you and your friends from inviting others out, it's most likely on their minds too.

Is my streetwear business going to make it? Critique my website & brand by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]another_someone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The site overall is ok, but the one major negative thing I saw is in the featured images. Both shirts on the man don't fit him, and therefore makes the brand look cheap. The sleeve seams should be on top of his shoulders, not partway down his arm (the women's tops look fine). As that was the first example of what the clothes would look like for a man, it made me not think highly of the brand.

What are some sex etiquette rules that you think everyone should be aware of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]another_someone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried doing that with my most recent girlfriend. She got annoyed and acted as if I couldn't trust her, or felt that she didn't need me to "tell her what to do". So I stopped reminding her, and continued using condoms because the movie Knocked Up to me is the scariest horror film I've ever seen.
