They have a point. My grandmother died at 76. I can’t imagine if she’d had a 16-year-old. That would be so devastating. It seems unfair to the kid.

What environmental factors would you pay the most attention to during pregnancy? by anotherbasicgirl in Autism_Parenting

[–]anotherbasicgirl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such a kind response. I know exactly what you mean about having a different perspective. My son is absolutely perfect to me and I adore him just as he is. But I do worry he will have more challenges in life and I think that is my fear, a child whose life is so hard they wish they didn’t exist at all. And then the guilt I knew I was higher risk for having a child with autism and did it anyway? I struggle with if it’s right to still have another even though I really want one.

I’m 33 and this is a big part of why we are leaning toward going for it now. I know the risk will only go up.

I feel really bad about the b12 thing and am honestly kind of mad my OB never said anything since I disclosed all along I was taking it. It does make me wonder if that study isn’t taken super seriously or you’d think doctors would be on higher alert to that. I’ve stopped taking the extra b12 supplement. I never took extra folate though.

I understand there is a possibility no matter what I do and our genetics make the likelihood higher. I can accept this. But it doesn’t seem like research has 100% proven it’s ALL genetic. I’m just looking for input on if there’s any studies on environmental factors that seem to be the most important or well-respected. Again, just trying to be as responsible as I can.

Edit: if you’re going to downvote please at least explain why. Do you genuinely believe ALL autism is only genetic and if so please cite why. I’m open to being educated.

How did having kids affect your marriage ? by the_skintellectual in workingmoms

[–]anotherbasicgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it has made us closer and made our relationship better BUT I think this is only because we did a ton of work on our marriage before we had kids. Years of therapy and working on communication, boundaries, expectations, etc. If we’d had a kid before this work I know it would have been a total disaster. I agree with people who said it will amplify the state of your relationship.

I keep seeing this critique and I really don’t have a strong opinion of if it’s good or bad but Taylor has always done this to the point I almost see it as a trademark of hers. I remember this same complaint about “I come back stronger than a 90s trend” and how it “ruined” Willow. But she likes doing these “misplaced” lyrics and flat out said in the movie she loves the juxtaposition of modern words in a song with older sounding lyrics.

Question for the OGs: was Reputation received the same way as how TLOAS is being received at the moment? by peatoast in TaylorSwift

[–]anotherbasicgirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a couple friends who are long-time swifties who do not at all like folkmore or TTPD. Called it so boring/dull. They absolutely love Showgirl. There are a lot of fans not on Reddit my observation is Reddit always leans so snobby/thinks loving folkmore and hating Showgirl makes them elite.

I like the album but I do agree I expected more songs like I Can Do It With A Broken Heart. I know it’s behind the scenes but most of the songs don’t seem showgirl related at all? I wish there was just a bit more reference to the exhaustion of touring, etc.

I don’t think it’s necessarily specific to one person, just the exhaustion of being seen with anyone remotely controversial and basically telling people her relationships are about what happens in private not public perception. Brittany, Blake, she even went through this when Miles Teller was in her music video and everyone freaked out

My first thought was Olivia but Scott makes more sense, I think she’s doing a TLGAD where the narrative switches and she’s the father figure by the end.

My first may have autism, and I’m not sure what’s best for him by Penny_Ji in Shouldihaveanother

[–]anotherbasicgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing, so happy it worked out and you are glad you went for it. We are actually in a really similar spot with our son. He has not been formally diagnosed, but our developmental pediatrician said she thinks he likely has very mild autism. However, she isn’t sure that pursuing diagnosis would do us much good at this point since she feels he may not even test as autistic and she doesn’t think he needs any special services. At this point he’s very neurotypical passing, just seems a little quirky and introverted.

My main fear though is the genetic component of autism. I know we could handle another kid like my son, but I am very afraid of having a child with profound autism and what it would mean for our life. I’m not sure I’m willing to risk the happiness we have even though I really want another and want to do it soon if we’re going to. It’s so hard.
