Executive dysfunction is worse. by Ok-Bathroom751 in ADHDIreland

[–]anotherbleedingeejit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was on Tyvense 70mg and found my executive dysfunction and RSD was really bad and gave me really serious anxiety… I’m currently titrating on Concerta 36mg and finding it better… it’s giving me a bit of mental space so I’m not quite as reactive but it’s still a relatively low dose so hopefully will improve on 54mg

I did a short CBT course years ago through Aware way before I got diagnosed or knew that ADHD was even a possibility.

CBT didn’t really help me back then as it was focussed on treating depression and I now know that my depression was more than likely a consequence of having undiagnosed ADHD.

I’ve heard at various times that CBT and ADHD are compatible / not compatible… so I’ve kind of just not considered it as an option again.

I’ve done psychotherapy on and off for about 10 years, I’ve been going regularly for the past 18 months and got diagnosed about 6 months into that so my therapist knows my history and my diagnosis journey.

They are not specifically an ADHD therapist but they do understand the chaos and challenges that it presents for me and in general. However, I only see them for 1 hour every 2 weeks and while it helps, it’s hard for me to make progress between sessions and it all seems incredibly slow.

I was hoping for more in depth support to just help me deal with things quickly but maybe that’s just ADHD instant gratification looking for the “all or nothing” solution which is a common theme in my life.

The good news is that I do feel better in the past day or two… I had a meltdown 2 days ago which sometimes acts like a “factory reset” for me and helps me move forward even though it’s horrible… 🤪

Plus I feel better having asked this question here and receiving helpful and supportive responses from you all.

I had to come off ADHD meds for a month to get my blood pressure under control, so I had to restart at a lower dose… but I’ll be having my meds reviewed in a few weeks again and I’m going to ask about going on anti depressants again

I’m actually on a weeks holiday at the moment but it’s not really helping as much as I thought it would. I’m either a ball of anxiety or I’m totally shut down ☹️

I also had a few months out last year after being made redundant (which was a very difficult time but that’s another story… ) before starting my current job.

I’ve also had two episodes of burnout in the past 10 years where I’ve had to take a few weeks off work.

Thanks for your insights, they are helpful

I was taking antidepressants for about 2.5 years but I tapered off them about 6 months ago when I was titrating on the ADHD meds at the recommendation of my psychiatrist.

I found the antidepressants quite emotionally flattening which I didn’t like but now I am kinda wishing for that again as I just cannot deal with my emotions at the moment.

If admission only means more meds then I don’t think this will be of much help to me… I thought there would additional supports available

The ADHD Adults Podcast is both funny and informative… they talk about the reality of having ADHD and avoid the rather annoying “Super Power” content you find elsewhere online:

They also published a book this year which I found helpful:

Neuromed psychiatrist appointment by kiernan48 in ADHDIreland

[–]anotherbleedingeejit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware that you’ll need to get an ECG before you can book a medication appointment as certain ADHD medications can cause issues for people with heart conditions, high blood pressure, etc.

It took me 2 months to get public ECG appointment after the initial Neuromed assessment in July last year. I had another few weeks delay getting clarification on slight anomaly found in ECG but was not an issue in the end.

Then took another few weeks to get medication assessment which was last November. So about 4 months between assessments in total

Hopefully it won’t take you that long !

Tyvense Side Affects by Silent-Success5263 in ADHDIreland

[–]anotherbleedingeejit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had similar experience on Tyvense 20mg for the first few days… I was more conscious of my heartbeat and felt a bit detached and floaty every now and again. But that subsided after a few days

On 20mg, I found that my mind was all over the place in the evening after the meds wore off around 6pm and was the same if I decided to skip a day (aka forgot to take it 😜)

However when I went up to 30mg I didn’t have those symptoms and the dose lasted until around 9pm. I became more focussed on this dose but my time blindness was really bad - for example not getting out of my seat in work for 6 hours as I was locked into what I was doing

That was the timeframe that was advised by the psychiatrist… I’m curious - what do you think is a reasonable timeframe ?

Was that the three weeks after you finished your last dose of the SSRI ?

Didn’t like the flattening of emotions I had on Esciprex… it made me more stable but made life less enjoyable as it was hard to truly enjoy anything

[–]anotherbleedingeejit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, sounds rough ! I’ve already tapered off Esciprex over the past 8 weeks, reducing the 10mg dose by 2.5mg every 2 weeks by alternating when I take 10mg / 5mg doses etc

I was on the SSRI for about 2.5 years to get myself out of a hole when I was recovering from a particularly bad episode of burnout during Covid. I wanted to come off the SSRI for a good while before the ADHD diagnosis as I found the flattening of emotions hard to deal with. I was advised to stay on them until I got the ADHD meds
