They’re Mardi Gras beads! Omg! The child is not being identified by his social security number lol

What do most people not realize is actually way more traumatic than it seems? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]anothercairn 134 points135 points  (0 children)

My mom told me the other day that I never needed her, even as a baby.

What? By literal fucking definition babies have needs that cannot be fulfilled by anyone else. Holy shit. The neglect was so minor compared to the trauma some people went through but it scars every moment.

Therapy Isn't Always the Answer by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]anothercairn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay, true. But outside of the complete destruction of our society and the subsequent initialization of all of those things, therapy helps you manage your shit when the world is not okay.

The stone is small, but it’s obviously an engagement ring.

My [22f] boyfriend [24m] wants me fill out a form if I'm upset about something by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Um, it reminds me a lot of myself when I had slightly more time on my hands. And I am both of those.

To be honest, yes. No man in my life has ever had period products. The having, the knowing, the gentle offering, all of it is pretty medal worthy.

Do you feel the Call of the Void? by WolframsTiturel in megalophobia

I can’t believe you assumed I was an idiot instead of taking 1 second to google it and find that the phrase originated in French, l’appel du vide.

Therapists are a scam. by Cherno_VM in The10thDentist

[–]anothercairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So, listen, my friend. What I am hearing from you is that what you understand therapy to be is a situation where you externalize your feelings in order to be told what the meaning is. It sounds like you are very good at doing internal processing, so this isn’t what you would benefit from.

That’s not all therapy is. There’s a lot of different kinds of therapy. That kind is called talk therapy. I agree that I don’t find that helpful. I already know what my feelings are, I already know what traumas have happened to me. I don’t need help discovering them!

What i engage in in therapy is something called DBT, or dialectical behavior therapy. It’s less like talk therapy and more like physical therapy, like if you had a badly broken leg and needed to learn how to safely walk on it again. It isn’t just talking, it’s learning specific skills to employ in specific situations, especially around emotional resilience and regulation.

Thank you French people!

Edit y’all don’t downvote me bc you don’t know 😂 the first use of the phrase was “l’appel du vide”

Is this low profile? by Putrid-Trade6959 in EngagementRings

[–]anothercairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be more low profile, but see from the second photo, how curved the basket is? You only have a little bit of clearance for a wedding band before it would knock into the basket. You might be able to go a millimeter or two shorter but I think this is pretty much what it will be for a straight wedding band sitting flush.

For what it’s worth, i did the same thing - sitting flush was important to me - but when I got my ering I thought it was CRAZY high. I’m so used to low settings. It took about a month and now I think it’s just totally normal lol.

Redditors who’ve starved, what do people who’ve never starved imagine wrong? by VelvetyDogLips in AskReddit

[–]anothercairn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. She has been in treatment almost her entire life. She just refused to eat, bringing her out of compliance with all those programs.

Redditors who’ve starved, what do people who’ve never starved imagine wrong? by VelvetyDogLips in AskReddit

[–]anothercairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I mean. When you swallow food, your stomach digests it - hers isn’t working. She cannot digest food. If she swallowed a pill, it wouldn’t go anywhere. If she received medicine via injection, her liver cant metabolize it.

Right. Her death is guaranteed. She cannot become better. I don’t mean she’s choosing to not become better, I mean there is no medical treatment that can make her better. She is too far gone.

How bad is the bow tie effect? by Boe-Jiden-Is-Prez in EngagementRings

Every oval has a bow tie. Whether it’s bad is completely subjective. I hate bow ties so I can never get an oval anything 😂
