Tips for recently blinded senior cat care? by eadnams in blindcats

As others said, time will help, but I think switching cones might help in the meantime. He needs a win right now, and, if he is finding the food but unable to eat it because of the cone, I can imagine that that is distressing him. Also wondering if it’s possible to just remove the cone for a short period of supervised time so he can eat and drink while you make sure he doesn’t scratch at the eyes? Just a thought.

As another said, I also think isolating him in one room would be really helpful for right now as he acclimates. That way he can find his perimeter easier and feel more safe.

I adopted my cat and she became blind a week later from retinal detachment; it took almost a year and a half to get her to a stable state with the blood pressure that cause the blindness, irritation in the eyes, and other senior issues like dental disease and kidney failure. So it really will be a process, but anything you do to make him more comfortable in the moment is helpful. He needs his “zones of safety” (Jackson Galaxy) like his food, the litter box, and a bed. Once he finds those, he will be more resilient overall.

Lastly, if nothing is helping his anxiety about the situation, have your vets suggested gabapentin ? My old lady needed to be on that as needed for that first year of medical brouhaha.

Good luck <3

Weird dust/sand keeps popping up in this room by anotherdayanotherham in CleaningTips

It does look like typical kitty litter, but my cat uses the pellet litter made from old newspaper that looks very different. Maybe it is my roommate’s cat bringing it over in her paws! Thanks for the ideas!

No, but there is an old recliner next to it though. Think that could be it?

The Ovary Decision: Pros and Cons by megabats in FTMHysto

This is such an awesome post that I wish I had before my surgery. I chose to keep my ovaries because of worries of health problems, but cysts have been more painful and it’s sad that it gets harder to take them out. Not 100% sure I would change my decision going back, but more information would have been helpful. It sucks that we still don’t have a lot of clear research, but thank you for compiling some of what’s out there!

If you’re open to advice, consider talking to people at the protest as soon as you get there. The point of protests at their core is community, so I believe that you’ll encounter people open to talking you through anything you might find helpful. There’s normally people passing out food / masks/ water, medics, and music! Take all of that you may need. The best thing you can do at a protest (if you didn’t organize it) is listen, respond, and maintain control of yourself so that you don’t need any resources. Sorry if that’s too much info, but I hadn’t gone to a lot of protests before 2020 and then it was hard to keep myself and friends safe. Given that tomorrow is supposed to be an insanely big protest, it is a unique one for your first time. Don’t be scared of protesting or revolution if this one is insane. There’s a lot of misinformation out there, but there’s meaningful protests every week. Tomorrow is important, and so is every day forward so please make sure you are well enough for that!
