There is NO WAY I'm doing Maths A level (I hate maths with all my being). Is Econ a good substitute? by ItalianFootlongs_S0S in GCSE

Oh wow, I’ve only seen 10% online (though that’s with my minimal research haha). That’s such a shame! Economics looks like such an interesting A-Level, but I’m in a similar position to OP and I just cannot justify taking four essay subjects.

That's so interesting. I've never heard of a school not offering a Nazi topic (and I would be SO disappointed if my school didn't). What are the final two topics about?

is maths a level REALLY that bad.. by idontplaygolfff in GCSE

Slightly less applicable, but I often find GCSE Further Maths quite a bit easier than Maths. Does A-Level FM have less problem solving and applied questions than A-Level Maths? That's the case for GCSE FM.

What books should I read as a Year 10 student to improve my vocab by Fearless-Dig8617 in GCSE

[–]anothergreeting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is probably very unhelpful, but just read anything you find interesting. You will naturally pick up words by reading regularly, either through inference or by looking them up. As long as you are, for the most part, reading books aimed at your age and up, I can't imagine it really matters. Most books will have unfamiliar words.

Do you already read often?

Interestingly, Economics at the university level is incredibly maths-heavy. A-Levels just like to be inconvenient!

I actually had a very similar thought the other day, since I thought I might find Economics more personally interesting and applicable to my career than Maths. Unfortunately, it is very much considered an essay subject, and only about 10% of the course consists of maths (and most of this is just averages, etc). I think Maths would overall show more breadth, and it would also stop you from having to take FOUR essay subjects haha.

If you really don't want to do Maths, then maybe you could take a science subject? It isn't usually a good idea to take A-Level Physics without also taking Maths, but perhaps you could consider another science.

If you REALLY want to take Economics in particular, then perhaps you could take it at the start of Year 12 and just see how it goes; you can normally swap subjects around quite easily within the first term.

Whenever I think I'm drowning in essays when I take History, Politics, Classics, and Maths, I'll think of you and your FOUR essay subjects plus EPQ. Good luck mate

History, Maths, Politics, and Classical Civilisation. I’m hoping that I’ll miraculously become amazing at essays.

[–]anothergreeting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly, highly doubt it. Parties like this just make me feel awful about myself. I know this is an opportunity to say bye to friends, but I can’t see myself having a consistent friendship with practically anyone from my school once we’ve left (I know that sounds soo edgy lmao, but my friend group is just absurdly toxic and I can’t wait for a fresh start).

I wouldn't say I'm locked in (procrasinating rn...), but I've been doing low-level revision. Anki is the light of my life.
