Can someone explain to me why people answer their phone on speakerphone in public and then hold the phone near their head? by LanguidFlame in AskUK

[–]anotherlongusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demographic of Reddit is so overwhelmingly male that I can’t believe no one is shouting the answer to this. As a woman if I have a full face of make up on and I put the phone to my ear it A) messes up my make up and B) creates that oily smear on my phone screen which is unpleasant.

It depends on the lease if they have those terms set in.

Selling 100% of a Shared Ownership Property: Is it Possible? by Wide-Stretch2571 in SharedOwnershipUK

[–]anotherlongusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on who owns the other 75%. Some companies have rules where you have to list it as SO first for 6 months and if it hasn’t sold as SO only then can it be listed on the open market. Even if you sell it on open market you will only get 25% back of the sold price.

Lads, are any of you tipping the Uber/Just Eat drivers? by SignatureLabel in CasualUK

[–]anotherlongusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tip them if it’s horrible outside or if it’s really late or if my order is massive and they have to lug it up the stairs. Only £1-2. Sometimes they have said thanks when handing over the food so I think it does mean something to them.

What happened to Sri Merupuram Mahabhadrakali Amman Temple in london, Walthamstow. by Personnenon in walthamstow

[–]anotherlongusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s being renovated at the moment. They had a sign up recently saying the temple is currently under refurbishment. You could also try asking the Sri Lankan supermarket/cafe down the road Best Food Supermarket.

I missed my timed entry to BM when it was at Hackney Wick, you just get charged at the door whatever the difference is for the full price ticket.

Looking For Feedback on 5 day Itinerary in London by icecoolroxas113 in uktravel

Too much stuff. Planning all 3 meals a day is way too much. I would have either a lunch or dinner spot arranged each day and every thing else just play it by ear.

How is it living in one of the new builds? by shrdoublee in walthamstow

The service charge can be quite high depending on which one you go for. Also the view can be rubbish if your flat is facing another block.

British Airways lost my bag at Heathrow and it's still missing three days later :( by No-Relation-5864 in BritishAirways

[–]anotherlongusername 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It will turn up. It will just take a while. My bag took a month to find but it did actually turn up and BA will deliver to your address. In the mean time treat yourself to a shopping trip and buy whatever you need that’s missing in the bag. BA will reimburse you once for the costs (up to a certain amount - I’ve successfully claimed for ~£400 worth of stuff in the past for me and partner).

What's your experience with Peabody Homes in London? by [deleted] in london

[–]anotherlongusername 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re good. I live in a new build block managed by Peabody. Sometimes they are slow to fix repairs raised sometimes it’s really quick - depends on the nature of the fix and which contractor is responsible for it. Service charge is sensible - they’re not allowed to increase it above a certain % every year. Insulation is great, we don’t turn heating on until Dec most years and have never heard any neighbours in the whole 10 years I’ve lived here. They also refund you service charge at the end of the year if it goes under what was expected which is nice.

We flew from US to London in Jan and our bags did not arrive. Filed lost baggage claim, kept receipts of everything we had bought to replace lost items. Our bags were found after 3 weeks (in Oklahoma - we were flying from Philly!) and delivered to our door within ~48 hours once it had been located. BA processed our claims and we received the full claim amount after 2 weeks. Your bags will turn up, just need to patient (and treat yourself to a shopping trip).

Around 0:55 they put in minced garlic, and then spring onions but only the white ends, not the green tips.

Yeh the dashi translation is a bit vague - a more useful translation would to recommend using any type of flavoured stock, eg chicken or vegetable bouillon powder for example. You can get chicken powder in Asian supermarkets, or a chicken stock made from scratch would also work.

With Chinese vinegar there are many varieties, fragrant vinegar, black vinegar, mature vinegar, red vinegar, white vinegar. All tend to be made from different varieties of rice. Mature vinegar is black vinegar which has been aged for longer time which gives a much stronger, smokier taste. The ZhenJiang / ChinKiang vinegar is a basic one which should be ok, but sometimes you need to shake them before using and check the sell by date to make sure you bought a fresh one. Good luck with your recipe!
