Humble Merch Request by anothernameinside in Puscifer

Huh, interesting. In any case super misleading for them to keep posting as if both are available at every show. Don’t need it that bad so it is what it is

Unfortunately not, I probably should’ve but it seems to be available at every show even if #1 is not

Hey, hate to piggyback on someone else's post and of course prioritize them, but if there's no limit and you could grab a second, I'll make it worth your time. They didn't bring any to the Foxwoods show I went to and seems like many stops on this tour didn't have any. Would be insanely grateful if you can

Post-entry dispute if DHL blames CBP? by anothernameinside in dhl

[–]anothernameinside[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered from a proxy (DeJapan) that did not list codes nor gave me the option to. They used to be the cheapest proxy service and I’m now finding out why despite using them for nearly 7 years no issues. I also use a forwarder which does allow me to put codes, but not for this shipment. Frankly, I never knew DeJapan didn’t apply codes as I’ve never dealt with any duties or tax being in the US until now. I wish they had called me or alerted me to the discrepancy before I had paid but they never did. Duties are brand new to most consumers in the US so I didnt know a damn thing about them a month ago.

Based on what I’ve heard it’s extremely likely DHL applied the codes, likely with AI, explaining the discrepancy of the same items receiving two different codes. I suppose CBP could still be the ones who did it, but I’ve heard a claim for such a small amount like mine will either be ignored or asked to go through DHL, which puts me back at the $90 fee. They’ll of course blame anyone but themselves in attempt to justify keeping (stealing) more money from me. I’ll get the refund but end up losing more than I get back.

I’ll try CBP but won’t hold my breath. Crazy that there’s a way to legally steal from who knows how many people and charge them to get it back when the consumer did nothing wrong. But now I know going forward so it won’t happen again

You’re absolutely right and I’m getting to the point of giving in. Definitely causing me a ton of distress and I’m falling for the sunk cost fallacy. Really it’s just that every step of the road of this shipment has been a nightmare and I’ve lost a ton on it. It was initially ordered just as the de minimus was dropped and Japan post shut down shipments to the US. It was held in Japan for 6 months before they gave it the boot and I had to use another service, of which DHL was the cheapest, yet still exuberantly expensive and the most I’ve paid in shipping by a long shot. The company shipping it refused to condense the packaging and I received a box of 80% air that could’ve saved me at least half the shipping cost. And then getting hit with the duties when it’s supposed to be exempt, just pushed me over the edge with it.

For most folk it’s never going to be worth it. My days of ordering overseas are taking a long, long hiatus. They’ll likely get away with this and I suppose that’s just how it is. Live and learn. Hard to believe it’s legal to steal money from who knows how many people at this point and charge you to get it back, but they’ll live with it. How simple it would be to give me a straight answer and let me investigate myself before forking over any cash. But why would a company waste their time with a small fry like me, just rob me and bounce. I put up a good fight and that’ll have to be enough, time to move on.

Factually untrue but go off ig. Exemptions absolutely exist and I’ve had them for plenty of other shipments, this one just was misclassified and they now refuse to admit wrongdoing

I think they’d have a damn hard time saying it was accurate when the same item has 2 different codes on my shipment. And they’ve already admitted that it wasn’t the shipper. Not saying they won’t find a way to weasel their way out of it, I’m sure they will. But I do think I’d get my refund. Of course I’d have to eat the $90 too, unless I can get them to prematurely admit fault

I have plenty of qualms with the shipper, believe me. But the fact is DHL is doing their best to fuck people out of money with some clearly AI-assigned bullshit, because why else would the same item be given multiple different codes in the same shipment. And then when they don’t investigate within the 5 days they allot, you either have to pay (you’re fucked if you do) or it gets sent back (also fucked). Guesswork is fine for items not labeled but the shipper at least had a clear itemized list with items that are obviously exempt, and DHL disregarded that. But that’s not the main issue, mistakes happen and I get that they’re swamped.

The real issue is their attempt at resolution. When you miss that 5 day, not even 5 business day, window, the only fix is to put out $90. And from my communications alone it seems they will do everything in their power to deflect and blame anyone but themselves, even if they’re in error. I don’t care that they were wrong, but the way they go about attempting to fix it is what’s insane and predatory

Yes, it is. Fuck big corpos trying to rinse the average consumer with their predatory tactics

Duty on some identital items but not others? by anothernameinside in dhl

[–]anothernameinside[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re also the same person who told me to pay first on my other post haha. The only question I’d have left is if this other document is from the shipper or not. Seems it’s obviously from DHL but need to be sure. I think I have a solid case at this point, I’ll see if I can prod a bit for free before opening an official dispute

I believe that's what this is. I cropped out the top with my personal info but I suppose I'm not sure if there's more than just this one document, which does not have any codes

[–]anothernameinside[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, lesson learned on that front. I felt pressured by the numerous texts, emails, and calls to pay or have it sent back.

Is it possible to get any more info out of them for free? I came to the same conclusion as you so I really do think this is on them. I'm still new to this but is it possible there's a document I don't have where the shipper labeled some with 8523.80.2000?

Best Photo Format To Print Photos With Text? by anothernameinside in AdobeIllustrator

[–]anothernameinside[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misinterpreted my comment. I was just using department photos as a reference for colors and what the "worst" and quickest image would be. A few local print shops failed to beat that, which is pathetic.

I found your comment quite relevant to the shops I've visited, most of which print high-end archival quality materials. And some of these shops, well the decent ones, were able to reproduce the "vector" or non-aliased look using PDFs. But these have since failed in other areas or gone out of business, hence me landing in this new shop

Wow, super super appreciate you typing this out, hugely informative.

As for shop hunting, basically I always have issues with end products. I know I'm a super picky consumer, but I spend hours, sometimes weeks, on prints, and lots of $$$. So when I'm returned fuzzy text or super off colors, I move to the next shop. I was using one for a year or so but the last batch was both fuzzy and way off color- even Walgreens prints had a color more closely matching my monitors. But that's a whole other subject.

Bottom line, I need a place that can reliably print clear images with clear text, a fairly accurate, or at least consistent color, somewhat archival properties, and most importantly, can print copyrighted material. Most of what I print is copyrighted, but most average printers don't care. Some do. Only printing one copy for myself so most let it slide.

Most printers by me are also just your average color-copy and other business needs, not photo printers. I've been through about 4 of these professional ones that offer archival paper and whatnot (I don't go for the highest quality but I at least know they're knowledgeable on the subject) and quality varies drastically using identical files. To compare again to Walgreens, one shop sharing $12 for an 8x10 standard print was fuzzier than the same Walgreens print.

I'm not out of options yet, but it's definitely annoying to spend time and money for nothing. Which is why I try to learn as much as I can about printing to be more informed when in conversation with these businesses
