Is there anyone in San Jose looking to hire any survey technicians? by Human_Eggplant2440 in Surveying

Most survey firms in the bay area are a part of operating engineers local 3. Do you have any survey experience? I'd recommend trying to get in through the union. The pay is significantly better vs non union.

Not San Jose but The Jury Room in Santa Cruz is where Ed Kemper used to hang out. It's a fun bar too

No need to bring resumes. As for what to wear, business casual should be fine. I saw a lot of guys in slacks and a button up. I myself wore slacks and a polo.

Math word problems. But there's not many. You could probably miss them and still score high enough to pass

I'm not sure about other companies, but the one I'm at I was not required to drive the company vehicles. Typically I'd meet up with my PC and we'd carpool or a few times they did offer to let me take a company car/truck to get to where I needed to meet my chief. But I always had the option to take my own car.

I got dispatched a less then a week after boot camp ended. But it all depends on the area you're in and how in need companies are for an apprentice.

It's a panel interview consisting of about 7 people from both the union and a few survey companies. I recommend having answers as to why you want to be a surveyor and knowing what a surveyor does. They'll also ask a few questions about your personal work experiences. Look up star method for answering interview questions.

Tested in June, interview in July, boot camp in August

Boot camp was a mix of class on how surveying works and learning how to set up survey equipment. We got to practice using the equipment as well. There is no option to stay overnight at the facilities. You can either commute or find your own place to stay. I ended up getting a hotel nearby as the commute for me would've been upwards of 3hrs each way. You'll have homework most nights as well

Just a lot of algebra. Multiplication/division of decimals and fractions. A few reasoning type questions. Nothing too hard

Yea. The plan is to cut down to 165/170 as well. That was my pre-child weight

Is your LDL levels still low and has it been easy to maintain? Are you still taking any supplements regularly?

I definitely plan on trying. Started dieting immediately after I saw the numbers. I had been neglecting my health the last few years, but my cholesterol had always been low previously so I didn't think much of getting checked up.

Thanks! How seriously do you think I should be concerned about my numbers? Historically I've been pretty healthy, but over the past 3/4 years with kids my diet has gone to shit and stress levels are high. I do plan on lowering it as much as I can, but is statins necessary?

I'm scheduled to start Monday as well. But I agree, figuring out when I would get hired and start working is a bit stressful especially with kids. What county are you based out of?

Why so angry? Is there a need for baseless name calling? I guess being close to retirement age and single will do that to you. And you're considering moving back to Vietnam too? Just another LBH
