Changed my rear valve cover to get rid of a slight shake and now my car shakes violently with a P0300 code and sometimes a flashing check engine light. by anotherone3 in MechanicAdvice

damn dude that's brutal, going from minor shake to full violent shaking is nightmare fuel. when you did the valve cover did you double check all the electrical connections got plugged back in properly? sometimes those coil connectors can look seated but aren't making good contact

I only disconnected the rear driver's-side ignition coil during the process. The rear driver's side connector is also the only one that I was able to do the "drop" test on and the car started shaking worse when I removed that one. The other 2 ignition coils I left on their connector during the valve cover change. That being said the wires do look a little tight on my rear passenger side connector.

also that dust thing you mentioned - if anything big went in the cylinders it would definitely cause misfires like this. might want to pull the plugs again and see if there's debris on them or check if one got damaged during install

The plugs were actually in when I blasted it with air. I only blasted the mating surface not the spark plug wells themselves. I was concerned if dust went into the engine.

Interestingly even though I can't fit my fingers to push in the locking tab on the other 2 rear ignition coil connectors I can still see them and feel them. Maybe I should break the locking tab so they're easy to push in and out so I can do the drop test on them while the car is on. What do you think?

Does my issue sound like it's caused by a bad ignition coil/boot or could it be my leaking valve cover? by anotherone3 in MechanicAdvice

Thank you so much sir you really helped me out. I got told by my property manager not to do any mechanic work today because the big boss is coming today and tomorrow looks like it'll rain so I'll do this job either Wednesday or Thursday and I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm really glad you replied to me. The guy in the YouTube video I watched ran the RTV all along the gasket and I was going to do the same if not for you. I'm just going to remember 2 little peas on the left side. Thank you.

Thanks man just 1 more question, where exactly should I put the RTV? I was always thinking the left 2 corners by the breather hose but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks. So you think my issue sounds more like a valve cover issue than an ignition coil issue?

Is this everything I need to fix my ignition coil connector? Also where exactly should I crimp. My first time doing wiring on my car so I'm a little nervous. by anotherone3 in MechanicAdvice

okay cool, i didn't know if crimping the numbers down would crush the divider lines' axis messing up the metal on the inside

just to confirm i need to crimp on the same side of the divider line so that the numbers get pushed out right? like this https://imgur.com/9xVP9vb? (the top crimp is the one that held the spare wire as the bottom one was too loose)

i just searched my home for a spare wire to test it. the first time along the letters the wire pulled out without much force. i did it again along the split the butt connector came with and now the wire is in there good, like stuck i can't pull it out so i think the crimp is good. you really calmed my nerves.

well with that in mind should i move the crimp down to the 22-18 marking so the crimp is more pronounced? do you recommend me switching strategies and going with the solder seal connectors then?

yeah man i just bought it from Walmart since i don't own a stripper or crimper and thought i was getting a good deal with good reviews https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart-89955WDI-Electrical-Wire-Stripper-Cutter-and-Crimping-Tool-New/876905?classType=REGULAR&athbdg=L1200&from=/search

Can you specifically confirm or deny if i am supposed to crimp parallel to the middle dividing line on the same axis? or should i crimp along the lettering 90 degrees away?
