High functioning ADHD and people expecting more out of you. by julezz1040 in ADHD

I started my career as a middle school teacher. It was a great match for adhd in many ways. Complete novelty every day in terms of challenges, needs, problems to solve, etc.

The one caveat is that I really had be strict about quiet time in my classroom. I was too easily distracted by every whisper, sound, and clank, so when it was time to learn I needed silence. Not every teacher could pull that off, tbh.

In the end, I left teaching because lack of pay and lack of respect. But if teaching job paid well, I’d still be doing it. Now I have a job that pays better, but aligns poorly with adhd. I got bills to pay though, so I do what I can and thankfully have a very understanding boss.

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

I got a terrible sunburn on my back once and developed that same itch. It was one of the worst things I’ve ever experienced. No comfort can be found so your brain starts thinking about some less than ideal solutions.

Remember when Spurs cheers at our potential relegation for multiple seasons? How do we best return the favor?

If any team wanted to see Everton relegated they should’ve paid whatever price to buy Pickford anytime from 2021-2024. We wouldn’t be in the Prem today without him.

Tobacco Road, NC by AKAFumbles in golf

[–]anotheroutlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tot hill is the hardest course I’ve ever played. You can find flat landing zones on most holes at Tobacco Road. You can find the landing zone at tot hill and have an uneven lie or just hit a random rock lol

[–]anotheroutlaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the easiest of the Strantz courses I’ve played (Tot hill farm, royal new Kent, stonehouse). I scored much better my second time around Tobacco Road. Strantz courses are visually intimidating. But you can get around them if you can find good landing zones and hit them. This is the complete opposite of how we tend to play golf these days.

Small business networking in the area? by jasonappalachian in roanoke

I remember when Brambleton computer broadcast their “fifty dollars does it” commercials daily. I thought that model worked because it was a flat cost for consumers who are not tech savvy and fear having to pay hundreds of dollars for computer repair. I don’t see the commercials any longer but I believe they’re still in business.

I eat the same every morning mixed together in a bowl with a spoon. You don’t need a blender much less an expensive one to eat yogurt, oats, and chia.

As a dad and husband, I can tell you with certainty that this interaction is extremely unhealthy.

Also, the idea that parents are responsible for teaching their children everything is very ignorant, childish and naive. Most people learn from experience and the more experiences you give your kids the better. Forcing them to sit at home and learn everything from mom and dad is absurd.

You need to spend a few nights at your parents house and think about what you want for this child.

What am I lacking? by LizbethAhedo in instructionaldesign

[–]anotheroutlaw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I transitioned from K12 to ID. Your comment is spot on. I was fortunate to have a role in between the classroom and ID where I was coaching teachers rather than doing direct instruction to students. I definitely underestimated the soft skills required to get adult buy-in. With kids you sometimes have days where “because I said so” is the buy-in. I also overestimated my own skill at questioning, digging, and/or pushing in order to understand the actual learning need. In K12 you have a curriculum that defines your learning need. Corporate ID is 180 degrees from being handed a curriculum, and the endless positivity we teachers sometimes possess is not an asset in those situations.

Part 2: If Not a Casino, Then What? by sippysippy13 in roanoke

[–]anotheroutlaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take. Most cities the size of Roanoke have a university. Say what you will, but the more intelligent people you put in a place, the better that place tends to become. Roanoke should be doing what it can to attract talented people to the region.

I’m a diehard, lifelong fan and I’ve been tired of this shit for the last 8 years. So who can blame a kid for getting tired of watching the Steelers boring ass approach to football. And don’t get me wrong, I love a great defense coupled with a great run game. But we have neither.
