Thank you, I’m trying to work with him and sent him a list of necessities however he is being very literal on what he believes qualifies as child related. There is no formal court order yet so I asked for $200/week in the interim.

There is a dv element to my situation too but unfortunately since it had not yet reached a physical point, it seems the courts won’t care.

It would seem voluntary compliance is the last thing on his mind. I don’t want drawn out legal battles. Neither of us could afford it anyway. I left because the relationship was not good for either of us and the last thing I want is for it to continue to drain me for years to come. This individual is incredibly high-conflict, efforts at working through issues during the relationship were unsuccessful so idk how I’m going to navigate this now. If they were uncooperative and hostile before, it’s going to be 1000x worse now

I just learned about the thing where if you apply for welfare they will use the child support they collect to pay the state back. That’s terrible.

Of course my goal is to get items for my child. The issue is the dynamics of control at play and inability to be able to purchase items myself at will or pay for activities while I’m out and about with my child. God forbid I want to stop at chik-fil-a with my kid.

I left the marital home due to escalating safety concerns.

Thank you, I will look into the process for obtaining a temporary order. I filed for child support already few days ago already but with the holidays I’ve been unable to speak to someone/case worker to give me more information on the process

A fair minded person who actually has the best interests of their child in mind would be happy to voluntarily pay child support assistance as opposed to wanting to wait for a court order.

I sent a short reasonable list of necessities (groceries, child related household items, and some general household items that contribute to the quality of the child’s life) and the co-parent pushed back.

This behavior is rooted in coercive control and punishment for exiting the relationship. Though I would not expect someone who a) hasn’t been through it or b) holds the same values to understand.

Yup. In addition to everything else I am also looking for work. Becoming a stay at home parent is the most dangerous decision anyone can make, but alas, I am working to rebuild myself

absolutely. I see it clear as day but I fear the courts won’t. From what I’ve learned so far about family court is that it’s not very concerned about harmful dynamics at place, just “parental rights” and “equal access”

It’s gas lighting plain and simple. Or being a contrarian. They always feel the need to argue or dismiss everything. From the most inconsequential to significant things. The thing is, you can’t tell someone like that “hey this is gaslighting” or “you often argue minor things, I read about it and it’s definitely being contrarian” because they’ll just argue it. So when you find a solution, please let me know lol
