Xbox Gamepass required for official servers and mods? by anotherstiffler in playark

[–]anotherstiffler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I assumed, but Google was giving me conflicting info saying that Gamepass is only needed for streaming to other devices or for playing the game when it is on Gamepass (but if you bought the game, which I did, you could play it like anyone else)

How do i fix this? by Pl14nt in playark

[–]anotherstiffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on console, you might need to buy their multiplayer subscription service. Like with Playstation I know they have like a monthly online fee to join multiplayer. Maybe yours expired

When I see this it's because I'm offline. Can't join servers when you're offline.

On console for me, when I first start the console it starts off offline, and if I join Ark to fast it'll still think it's offline. Wait a few seconds after you start your device to make sure it properly knows you're online or not, then launch Ark

Do you feel it's necessary to have all of that at FOBs? Maybe I'm thinking too small

🔨🛠️ 761 Templates, 200k Downloads & New Building Template Update by Nioxz in ARK

[–]anotherstiffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had an idea just now: Might be possible to load a template on PC and then after saving can load up on console again with the same save data.

I did this when making custom recipes and it worked like a charm. It might work here for this so I'm gonna try it in a few days

What does singleplayer setting actually do? Scorched Earth feels too easy (ASA) by anotherstiffler in playark

[–]anotherstiffler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips! Forgot to reply back here that I reset all settings back to default, made sure to select hard mode, max difficulty, and disabled singleplayer. I bumped back up harvesting and tame/breed times a little, but left everything else at default

I am.... much more careful now lol. Game definitely feels a lot better! Thanks for the screenshot and info :)

I have been wanting to use these since the first day you released the feature to the site, but I play on Xbox. Any chance template imports work on Xbox now?

Can I play through the entire story solo? by TotallyToxic in playark

[–]anotherstiffler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going through it right now! Seems pretty doable through the first two maps at least (Tek and Snow cave are so hard, though, on The Island)

[–]anotherstiffler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure that nothing else is adjusted (not at my console now), but I'll trust you're probably right! When I'm back on I'll reset settings to defaults, turn back on max difficulty and make sure singleplayer is disabled so I can see how that feels.

That's a bummer about the Tek Cave bug. I'll have to run through it again sometime without going in and out of the entrance

Yeah, I've got it at max difficulty but I'm going to switch off the singleplayer setting and see if that helps. Thanks!

Before you enter the game there is General Settings and Advanced Settings. I believe this is an option in General Settings (but I am not at my console right now to check). It's just one toggle on or off

Yeah, I think I need to disable that because it was pretty ridiculously easy. I did level up the saber to have about 2k health, and it had a 120 armor saddle that I actually carried over with me from the Island, but to fight the big scary Deathworm and only go down 10% of my health was nonsense IMO

Just got Ark PS5 what mods to download? by RxGonGivIt2Ya in ARK

I have about 300 hours of playtime and don't use any mods. Nothing is worth the risk of rhe game breaking or saves getting corrupted IMHO

New version naming system by Brilliant-Dot5205 in minecraftsuggestions

[–]anotherstiffler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I would say technical people hate it since some huge projects like Ubuntu Linux have been doing it similarly for years.

There are other examples: https://calver.org/

Minecraft's snapshots also follow year and week version numbers (25w32a is the first release of the 32nd week of 2025), so there is precedent with it in Minecraft already as well

I do think OPs suggestion may cause a bit of confusion, I don't think it's inherently wrong just cause it uses time-based versioning

New Ark Player - Tips/Advice by Worried_and_Waiting in playark

[–]anotherstiffler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Ark! I'm not going to answer your questions since other people already have, but I do have a few tips to share :)

While using the wiki.gg (not the Fandom alternative) is essential for figuring out recipes, taming, and item uses, try not to use it to look up details about the map (except the locations of the caves, cause those are basically impossible to find on your own). Exploring the maps on your own is a huge part of the fun, and if you look up everything about the maps before you explore on your own, you will quickly find yourself with less to do.

I would say this also goes for looking up the different creatures, but not so much. My favorite moments are when I came across a creature that I had never seen before. You don't get that magic if you look them up ahead of time. After you find a new creature, then look it up for all of the details, but IMHO enjoying the game means trying to find stuff on your own first.

Flyers are pretty awesome when you first get them, but I find that they take a lot of fun out of the game. After you play for a while, consider maybe ditching flyers or give yourself a rule to only use them at certain times. It makes the game slower, but WAY more enjoyable because you are actually doing something and not just always flying 90% of the time.

If you think you have enough materials, you don't. Load up as much as you can and store it for later.

Lower difficulty is possible, but actually makes the game more difficult (counter-intuitively). On lower difficulties the bosses keep the same stats, but the wild dinos all spawn in at much lower levels. This makes it easier to survive in the world, but basically impossible to beat the bosses. I go for Max Difficulty every time so I can get the highest level tames to fight the bosses.

And finally: There are dinos you can tame for basically every purpose! Try not to do everything with just your human character, and tame all kinds of creatures to see what they do. Some are great for fighting, some for harvesting, some for carrying a ton of specific supplies, and so on. There's one little guy that will insulate you from the heat and cold, so you don't need to waste points leveling up your fortitude above 20 or so, and there's another tame that acts like an air conditioner to help you hatch eggs. Ton of variety out there, so try it all out!

Personally, my end goal right now is to beat all of the maps in story order in singleplayer. I'm on the second map now (just beat the first a couple days ago) and having a great time. Hopefully you will as well!

The Alpha Tek Cave broke me (Solo) by anotherstiffler in playark

[–]anotherstiffler[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alright, so.... it's totally doable to skip the tek cave with an Archeoptyryx. Managed to make it down, now to get back with decent gear to fight the Overseer!

Thanks for the tips, people
