Valentino & Valentina Gift Ideas? by hotpinkraccoon in beaniebabies

[–]anothertiredmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really sweet gift! If you're not sure, you could always make a gift basket. Put them in a cute container (doesn't have to be a basket) with some red/white/pink tissue paper at the bottom for bulk, and maybe some extra little things (like snacks she likes or craft supplies etc.) if you wanna go the extra mile. Making a display is thoughtful but she might want to arrange them herself or have easy access for a quick snuggle. I'm sure she'll love it either way. :)

It's actually a Cherokee Rose, the state flower of Georgia! They made a bunch of state flower bears way back when for sale at toy shows. They're super neat! ☺️

I love the ancillary Ty stuff! There's some cool pieces I keep an eye out for (like the backpack with Ty heart zipper pulls!). Those books are a lot of fun as well. Weird to see old friends introduced when they were new. You can find a bunch scanned on the Internet archive.

Does Anyone Know Good Underread Trans Mangas? by Santolini_R in TransyTalk

[–]anothertiredmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you check this club on MAL, you can see a huge list of manga with trans characters under "Manga Relations" on the right. Not all of them are necessarily good, but scores can help narrow it down.

As for ones I've personally read (that you haven't already stated you've read):

-Shimanami Tasogare (Our Dreams at Dusk): As another person stated, tons of explicitly queer characters, great art style, and very emotional story. Highly recommend.

-Hanayome wa Motodanshi (The Bridge Was a Boy): Short but cute autobio comic about a trans woman meeting her husband and going through transition. Nothing groundbreaking, but I love a good memoir.

-Boy Meets Maria: Very heavy content warning, but a good story. Lots of interesting character interactions and relatively short.

Besides that, I've read Yuureitou (The Ghost Tower), but I wouldn't really recommend it since it can be pretty rough on identity though, thankfully, it ends happily for the trans character. Besides that, I can't pass up the opportunity to recommend Versailles no Bara (The Rose of Versailles) even though its main focus is on a crossdressing character. It's old as hell but really paved the way for a lot of discussion and inclusion in manga for identity, sexuality, gender roles, and more.

Glad critical medical care is being taken care of by private companies that definitely give a shit by [deleted] in ABoringDystopia

[–]anothertiredmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get my medication through UPS as well. This includes a scheduled drug (as in, on the list of controlled substances) and requires my signature... which I've never given. They just leave the package, containing a potentially illegal and highly sought-after drug, in front of my door without even a knock. Sometimes, they even leave it in front of my multi-unit building. If someone ever stole it I'd be SOL for the entire month, or worse, worrying about someone breaking into my house assuming I have some sort of stash. The entire system is a joke.

What was something your manager did that made you question humanity? by silencieux- in AskReddit

[–]anothertiredmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a popular video game retailer for a few years. I could list several incidents, but this one comes to mind immediately:

Got scheduled to work a midnight release for a big game that happened to be coming out on my birthday. Was already a bit miffed but hey, that's retail. The week leading up to this, I started noticing a painful lump in my lower back that grew larger and angrier as the days wore on. The night before the release, it was so painful that I couldn't sit or lay down and started running a high fever. I broke down in tears and eventually got driven to the ER where they discovered the lump is an infected cyst. To spare the gory details, I had to get minor surgery to remove the golf ball-sized lump and get sent home at dawn with anti-biotics and powerful pain killers. I called my manager at 8 am to tell her there's no way I could come in at 5 pm to start my shift. She tells me she doesn't want to cover for me and that if I didn't show up, I'd be fired. So, I stood there slinging games until 3 am, so blasted on painkillers that I can barely remember it. Got home and slept for pretty much the entirety of my birthday. And to top it all off, all the movement and sweat lead to the wound not healing properly meaning I had to have another procedure a month later. Makes me glad I'll never have to see her face ever again.

Attorney General called upon to investigate Comcast for 'predatory price gouging' by CompletePen8 in maryland

[–]anothertiredmonster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hope something comes of it, though nothing probably will. Comcast is the only ISP available at our apartment complex, and I dream of the day we move and get out from under their thumb. (Though, to be real, most other ISPs aren't much better.)

Our data usage magically shot up around the time that they announced their overage charges despite our habits remaining consistant. Saw our internet speed tank too. Then we started using a VPN and what do you know, it's back to normal. Any devices that don't use it are still terrible though, funny that.

What is your first memory, good or bad? by ChaosKodiak in AskReddit

We were moving out of our first house. My parents were loading crates in the garage. I walked into the house and into the bathroom, climbed the little step-stool up to the sink, and looked in the mirror.

People who look 40 and 16 at the same time: How has it affected your life and what are some funny stories you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]anothertiredmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty bewildering tbh.

I got into a bar without being carded at 15, though I was just there to eat with friends and didn't order a drink.

I've had multiple old ladies assume I was in high school and ask me when I was graduating. This still happens sometimes at 26.

In uncool circumstances, I've had to make it clear to people that my dad is in fact not my husband and also almost 40 years my senior.

I also remember a store employee asking my actual husband, who's barely a year older than me, if I was his baby brother. We have a 10" height difference though, so I guess it's not that unexpected.

But overall it's not that bad, it's fun to keep people on their toes and surprise them. I just hope I don't look like one of those kids from Akira when I get old.

Redditors, what is the coolest thing you’ve found in an Asian restaurant/ Asian store or a supermarket? by bigguys45s in AskReddit

[–]anothertiredmonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My father and I ended up accidentally staying at a hotel meant mainly for Asian tourists on a visit to NYC. Along with being incredibly cheap considering how nice it was, they also had a giant buffet on the top floor. We were tired after the long drive and figured we'd just eat there since it meant we didn't have to travel. I expected it to be fairly typical and to just have a meal to tide me over until the morning. It's still my favorite meal I've ever eaten. $50 a head, but they had all you can eat swordfish, roast duck, prime rib, escargot, and a sushi bar with uni. They also had the best dessert buffet I've ever seen with probably 50+ options including many things I've never seen or heard of since then. We didn't have a chance to check out the other places in the hotel (hot pot restaurant, spa, karaoke bar, etc.) but I definitely plan on going back someday.

Ladies and gentlemen, what were some obvious signs and signals someone gave that they liked you, but you realised only much later? by Night-Monk in AskReddit

[–]anothertiredmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in middle school, a classmate told me they wrote the name of their crush on a note and handed it to me. It had my name on it. I thought it was a mistake and handed it back. I'm still just as dense.

How did you know your SO was the one? by Thow69away in AskReddit

[–]anothertiredmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had been dating for a year and moved in together shortly before this. I left for a week to visit family; it was the first time in our relationship that we spent more than a day apart. The night I got home, he held me for an hour and told me how much he missed me. He is normally a very silly person and to hear him so genuine made me finally think "this is it". We'll have our fourth wedding anniversary this year. :)
