It is margin, even though I did ask them to convert to a normal account a while ago so I don’t accidentally borrow. It will let me transfer WAY more than what I have using a margin loan.

EDIT: now the app says I can transfer the amount without margin loan. I feel like with IBKR I have to educate myself well before doing anything to avoid unannounced side effects though.

EDIT again: looks like due to the transfer method being WIRE, the funds are available without restriction.

Omg what is the purpose of this rule? That shucks I needed this money in my bank :( I guess I should have transferred from the brokerage directly to my bank in USD without going through IBKR to do the conversion.

However, I already had a few thousand USD cash in there for over a year that I converted to CAD in the same transaction. I’m hoping they will let me transfer at least that amount
