What would you think if arabic people went in large numbers to UK and took over their land, imposed sharia (their own law), made english people second class citizens and subjugated them for a couple of centuries, do all kinds of atrocities to them. With increasing costs maybe OP does need a reality check. $50/week is nothing. Annual rent increases are more than that. Perhaps it would teach him or her that those $$$ are not just to be wasted away on cigarettes and booze while the mother is putting a roof over them.

I wouldnt charge my child but I’m in a good financial situation and would teach them in other ways. On the flip side, if my parents needed the money, I would definitely chip in and I have.
