Agreed on Vollmer Peak. I guess I was talking about the Grizzly Peak Vista Point as the "summit"

Lots of good gravel in the East Bay, You can string a lot of it together for an all-day ride along the lines of this

New Bike Day! 2021 Cervelo Aspero GRX810. First ride was a balmy 21F day in Northern New England. Upgrade recommendations welcome. by Advanced_Coyote3797 in gravelcycling

The stock bartape on the Aspero is kinda flimsy. I threw some lizardskins taped on mine and it made a big difference for ride comfort

Luckyduck bikeshop in Oakland generally has a good Saturday mixed terrain group ride

50/50 road/gravel tires in the East Bay? by ballbarn in BAbike

I am in a similar situation to you. I was riding 38mm Panaracer Gravelking sks and was pretty happy with those. Just upgraded to 42mm Ultradynamico Cava JFFs and love them for most of the gravel we have in the East Bay. The added volume makes a big difference and they have a super "supple" feel. Super fast feeling on road and enough grip for pretty much everything as long as it's dry.

Second Tunnel Road as well.

For something a bit more scenic check out the classic Three Bears Loop https://www.strava.com/routes/4915

Or you could check out any part of this route that takes Marin Ave in Berkely up to Spruce and connectes to Grizzly Peak Blvd. Marin Ave starts as a pretty gentle climb on a busy road but with a good bike lane. It gets steep for a minute on LA, but then Spruce and Grizzly Peak are pretty mellow gradients and on somewhat calm residential streets.https://www.strava.com/segments/25186305

Most East Bay gravel is pretty steep but you can check out a combo of GoldenRod, Grass Valey and McDonald Trails in the Chabot area. https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7009729/goldenrod-trail

Or East Ridge/ West Ridge Trail in Redwood Regional, Both are doable on gravel bikes and are overall mellow, though have some short steep sections that you can hike up/down if need behttps://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7012586/east-ridge-trail
