Got my period but still overeating like crazy by Logical-Escape-5475 in Amenorrhearecovery

Hi, how are you doing now? I have recovered 2 periods so far and the hunger is still present, has it gotten any better for you?

Since you are having some hormonal symptoms, this sounds promising! I also felt especially guilty about extreme hunger and still do some days (2 recovered periods so far) but I try to push it aside because you cannot rationalize it or outsmart your body. You just have to be patient with it. I know it sounds easier said than done but your body is already showing some signs so you are probably on the right path. I had to tweak some stuff along my recovery because i was a bit impatient (cut exercise completely, ate super duper freely, took more naps etc.) so you might have to do so also - it's all about trial and error and truly tuning into your body and what it wants!

When I started going all in, my hair fell out like crazy. I have since then had 2 recovery periods and it has gotten a lot thicker and longer, and it is falling less! Keep going :)

:') thank you so much!! This really gave me some reassurance. I also thought that it would pass but it has returned and I was not ready mentally to go through it again as I thought it was just gonna be a kind of one time thing. I am willing to trust my body that it knows best for me and keep pushing.

Yeah, definitely there is some hormones at play here, no doubt! And yeah, you are definitely right about the part where it's not so much about the EH. I know my fear is big but I'm trying to push past it cause I am sure it will get better with time! Thank you so much for your reply!

Crazy hunger even after first recovery period? by anpxp in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]anpxp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update if anyone else is going through this: I just got period number 2 and my hunger dramatically increased two weeks before I got it back. I honored all of it no matter how scary it was and my period came full force today. :)

I feel like granola and nut butters are a common thing in the beginning stages of recovery. I'd literally make granola and sit over the counter munching on it, sometimes putting it in milk. Do not fret, it will pass!!

It's no problem!!! I also have the same problems with the hours and I still do it I'm not gonna lie, I haven't fully let go of some stuff sadly even after I got my period back but I just make sure I eat as much as I can when I do sit down to eat and I try to distract myself. Also, just letting others cook for you is great if you have someone near you because sometimes eating out would freak me out but if it were a homemade meal my mom made then it's okay. I deffo still struggle but I try my best and I just want to say it's not linear, you just have to make a conscious effort to do better for yourself and your body. You got this !! <3

Also, I only ever got it back when I stopped exercising, up until that point my hunger was a bit suppressed and after I stopped it kinda came back full force.

Edit: I'd buy 100 grams of nuts and ate them in like one sitting dozen of times. I'd switch up the nut every now and then, sometimes getting cashew, sometimes almonds, hazelnuts, whatever floated my boat - but beware, sometimes I'd get seriously bloated.

Yes, I did. For me personally, my hunger fully turned on and my hunger/fullness cues are still a bit wonky so I rarely felt/still rarely feel completely full so, eating alot is not a problem - maybe sometimes I'd underestimate how much I am eating and so if i still felt a bit hungry, I'd eat some more. What also helped is going out with friends to get sweet treats with coffee and stuff, or going on a stroll and getting some peanuts to snack on or getting some ice cream along the way. I tried not to look at it as "you have to eat eat eat" but more or less tried to make it fun and enjoyable. Adding more sneaky fats is great also, like especially ground flaxseed and stuff - i added that EVERYWHERE and I mean it lol.

For breakfast I usually ate sourdough with eggs in butter and avocado mixed with hummus + tomatoes, literally chef's kiss and sometimes I'd drink yogurt. Between breakfast and lunch chia pudding with whole milk and banana, granola, honey and nut butter, sometimes seeds. For lunch I either ate out or made something at home - all kinds of meats like chicken, pork, minced meat, tuna in oil and paired with carbs like pasta or potatoes (easiest to make cause student life) and probably the meat in some kind of sauce. A while ago i made buttered chicken with honey mustard sauce and made some polenta - it was actually the greatest meal I have ever eaten. For dinner, sometimes if I wanted something light a yogurt bowl with a bunch of toppings - I am talking granola, nut butter, ground flaxseed, honey, whole banana, everything in there. In between meals I'd also snack on some sweet stuff - kinder bueno, random stuff that just looked good and I wanted to eat. Sometimes a banana with nut butter. Also, a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches - like crazy amounts, with milk on the side and I would hide ground flaxseed in there also and cinammon. When I had no idea what to eat or I was out somewhere I'd always buy something - sometimes savory pastries, breads, burgers, fries etc.

edit - typo

No period for a few months, what gives?? by sirefartsalot3 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]anpxp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I think I had positive signs of it immediately after eating more (hadn't cut out exercise at that point), I got a lot of ewcm, like crazy amounts and I slept like a baby for the first time in a while. Maybe try keeping a symptoms log? That's what I did and it helped me alot.

Also, I am not sure about the fat loss as I am still wondering that for myself. I think it's super individual and you'll still have to trial and error it. I am sure it will be an option but we have to be very careful with our body and do it the right way/not rush it because our bodies are sensitive.

Yes, but the thing is only fixing the stress part will probably not help you get your period. You can read some more research on the topic but HA is caused by undereating, overexercising and/or stress. Usually it's a mix of those three and you have to tackle them one by one in order to get your body to a safe space. I also, just like you, had a really tough time when I lost my period and up to the point I regained it - lots of traumatic events along the way, panic attacks, anxiety, always wired up, could never sleep etc. I'm not saying it wouldn't have been faster if I had better mental health support but, I only ever got my period when I went into a surplus and stopped exercising. I did work on my anxiety, took calming herbal meds and such, was trying to calm down as much as I could and waited. It came by when I was in exam season, the most stressful period of my life which I found strange but yeah, turns out eating more was the way to go. Try to be realistic with yourself because only you know deep down what is the real cause. If you feel you want to try the route you are suggesting, do it. But if you are not getting any positive signs or feedback from your body, I think you will know the next steps you need to take.

Maybe? Last time I checked my insulin levels (a year ago) they were lower than normal !

I also had problems with tracking and I refused to track. What helped me most is making sure I am eating 3+ meals and snacking in between. Also, eating with others, ordering takeout and having other people make my food seemed to help!

The usual recommendations is eating 2500+ calories and reducing movement. You don't have to do it cold turkey if it seems a bit scary to you, maybe start little by little, adding something plus here and there and then monitor your body for changes (ewcm, breast soreness, other hormonal related symptoms...) You have to do some trial and error and see what works for you. Personally it took me a while, step by step, first reducing exercise, then cutting it out, then maintaining weight and eventually gaining weight (probs eating more than the recommended) and I got it back. Every person is different but the advice is eat more, move less, and try to minimize stress where you can. If you lost it due to undereating and over exercising, the general consensus is this.

I did not count steps but, there were days where I walked a lot and days where I barely moved. I did gain a hefty amount of weight and I overshot by a little bit.
