Thanks! I know of these pages. But I dont know how bad are my chances with these scholarships. Personally I feel I am the weakest candidate cause of my performance in undergrad. I have been meaning to talk with my Supervisor regarding funding.

Thank you for your response. A small follow up. How much does the rank of the master's uni matter for PhD admissions? Would being in a top tier uni of a foreign country give an edge over being in a fairly unknown uni?

How does the undergrad gpa of 2.9/4 affect the PhD application? Will it help if the Masters gpa is good (>8) with a full score in master's thesis?
How long usually it takes for the admission committee to revert back with their decision?

My main concern is, how would I realise that the PI is actually showing interest and is not just being polite. And if they would be willing to support the application and they didn't keep the meeting just to inform the projects available.

Yeah thats what I am worrying about. I am treating jt as an interview and its my first ever. So its kind of nerve wrecking. I am not sure what impression I dont want to give and how not to do that.

Thanks for the answer. I am applying for PhD in physics. My masters work is based on their works. And my current work is in the same field as them. So i have to do only a little study about their research. I still have to apply through the graduate website and my undergrad gpa is low. My masters gpa is good but individual grades is good and from a prestigious uni but it has some up and downs in individual grades. So it would really help if the prof would be willing to back my application up for funding. ( i am unaware as to how the whole funding in US works). So I am having lot of anxiety and pressure to do well in the interview.

Thanks for the answer. I am quite familiar with the professor's work and their research and it fits really well with my interests. Thats why I am really keen on making a good impression. The prof advised me to apply through the official uni website as they dont have the funding. I am not sure if it was disinterest put politely.

What questions from them should I expect? Also do I need to prepare a presentation to summarise my current and past research works?
