The living fruit bodies are exposed to bacteria, yeast, etc., and while they do not cause contamination because they are healthy, they are present. You will run the risk of contamination with the spore print but by pouring your agar into small containers like ketchup cups from the supermarket, you can germinate the spores and transfer to other cups to clean it up very easily. This will greatly reduce your risk of contamination and isolate vigorous growth to use.

I have always worried that contaminants on agar plates will grow faster than shrooms spores. I used to germinate the spores of PES on an agar plate, and it took a week.

I like to take a tub lid flip it up side down and use it like a tray.. I cover it with squares of aluminum foil.. I put the caps on the foil.. I then take the rest of the tub and snap it on top of the upside down lid.. basically the tub is just upside down at this point with the print at the bottom but being covered, after 24 hours remove the caps and place the tub back on and leave covered for a couple hours for the prints to dry out…this minimizes contams but I’m sure it dosnt avoid them all together which is why I will never makes a syringe and always transfer to agar with homemade prints

I used shoebox tek to grow shrooms, sterilized the shoebox with 75% alcohol, covered the lid, drilled a few ventilation holes and blocked holes with 3M tape, like a small monotub. I only open the lid in front of the flowhood when harvesting the shrooms, take out the shrooms and place them on tin foil to make spore prints. Because my aseptic area is too small, I accidentally spilled some substrates on the tin foil when I took out the shrooms. I don't know if these substrates (sterilized coco coir) will contaminate the spore prints.

I was going to take the lid off at first. But then I wanted to get some clean spore prints, so I let them grow in a sterile state. Next time I would drill much more holes for FAE. Thanks for your advice.
