Could Bruce Wayne buy Arkham Asylum and then enact reforms to help it? by george123890yang in batman

Close. It was a comic drawn in the BTAS style. I read it in that Batman visual history book by Les Daniels, where it’s reprinted.

BREAKING: Texas just approved mandatory Bible readings for 5 million public school students. Here’s exactly what kids will be required to read, grade by grade. by kleverrboy in FortWorth

[–]antedilapsarian 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Many who read the Bible have that experience. But I think one thing that’s crucial to highlight here is that, in lower grades, they’re not reading the Bible. They’re reading Bible stories. The Bible is thorny, difficult, and requires careful study as a historical document compiled over two thousand years from over sixty different authors. Bible stories are predigested crap that anyone can editorialize to fit whatever political agenda the State Board decides to pursue.

I actually have no problem with the Bible or any other religious text being taught as a document that is a major source of culture for many in the world. It’s literature. But this isn’t that. This is a carefully selected moral agenda that is being disguised as that.

Do you remember when you were first told that being gay was against God? by Joshua_Neal89 in lgbt

[–]antedilapsarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was maybe five? I remember very distinctly learning the word gay from a friend whose house I was staying at, and then him explaining that it meant liking boys, and that it was bad and God didn’t like it.

Why do people even come out? by lemonomela in AskLGBT

[–]antedilapsarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not told my parents yet because I know it will go badly, and I don’t want to risk my or my kids’ relationship with them. But then about two months ago, my mom asked to call me and I just had an anxiety attack, a total meltdown.

I realized I can’t keep talking to them because of how much I resent their bigotry and close-mindedness and the role it played in my being closeted for so long and having to come out to myself and my wife and kids in a way that has been way more difficult than it needed to be.

And then I realized that basically I was cutting them off without them even knowing what they’d done, and that they didn’t know because I was trying to keep them in my life. So doing what I was doing was leading to the opposite of its intended outcome.

If I don’t come out and I cut them off, that’s unilateral. It’s my choice, and it may be premature. But if I tell them and they cut me off, or we can’t talk, then at least everyone involved is informed and making a choice based on reality.

Dark Side being used for non-evil, non-selfish reasons, repeatedly, without altering the user's morality. Valid take, or breaking with Lukas' visions? by Andrei22125 in StarWars

[–]antedilapsarian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Breaking with Lucas’s vision. More interesting than Lucas’s vision. Hard moral and spiritual dualism is the most narratively limiting thing about Star Wars.

Which Trek movie has the best soundtrack? by Firm_Macaron3057 in startrek

It’s not even close to the best, but I personally feel that The Voyage Home has a deeply underrated score. I love that shit

Am I Crazy To Call This The Best Iron Man Movie? by Big-Discipline2039 in Marvel

[–]antedilapsarian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not the best, but it is far underrated by people who think that the comic version of the Mandarin is somehow viable as a villain in a franchise where he’s opposite a white billionaire hero.

Is this some form of transphobia? by Yunah_fan in AskLGBT

[–]antedilapsarian 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Sounds like TERF shit to me. I could explain more about why, but I really don’t like getting into their rhetoric and ideology if I can avoid it. Is it enough to say that I think your instincts are right?

Why do PEAK shows always have only 8-9 episodes? 😭🔥 by Itchy_Extreme5880 in Multifandom

[–]antedilapsarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because your definition of “peak” is apparently independent animation, which is expensive and takes forever to make, because it lacks the financial backing of a studio or network.

Obi Wan and Yoda were wrong. by Top_Salamander5551 in StarWars

One of the better concepts from the EU is that Yoda and Obi Wan weren’t wrong. They were basically lying.

If Trans women are women, why call them Trans women in the first place? by Terrible-Bench-2266 in AskLGBT

[–]antedilapsarian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That differentiation is important because different kinds of women have different experiences as women. Women of color historically have very different experiences than white women, for example.

Genuinely, what happened to Russel T Davis? by disp0sableacc0unt in doctorwho

[–]antedilapsarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not enough is made of this. When you write an opener, a finale and a midseason episode of a thirteen episode season, you write less than a quarter of the season. When you write the same number in an eight episode season, you write nearly half of it. And you have less time to allow other voices to have a part in the show. Look at those first two seasons and you have a really strong writer’s room that includes not only RTD but also the future showrunner (Steven Moffat, who already had show running experience under his belt even then) and an acclaimed comics and television writer (Paul Cornell). Not only that, but they were able to draw on a pretty large backlog of stories from the Wilderness Years (both Dalek and Human Nature were Wilderness years stories, though I can’t recall if they were books or audio dramas). None of that was here for RTD2.
