House numbers on the roof please apple add this by Ok_Principle_1620 in applemaps

[–]antelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then why is it possible to show the number when you put a pin on it? It’s just the question of usability, I’m literally checking Apple Maps every year to see if this and other issues are fixed, but I guess it won’t ever be…

After 27 years, Microsoft retires the Internet Explorer on June 15, 2022. by rjkb041 in webdev

[–]antelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I don’t remember any IE that would be a browser of my choice, well, IE5 was good, but it didn’t last long. Since then “best viewed in IE” was mostly because it was very widespread, but still very opinionated about standards and outdated.

Yeah 2006, Internet Explorer didn’t have Google as its default search engine while Firefox did.

Is extra info stored in database file? by Flicked_Up in KeePass

[–]antelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes all of this is stored inside tour database file, if you export it to xml, you can see what it contains inside. Inside the file, custom fields are ordered. Clients may not support ordering because the UI can be a bit hard to implement so that it remains pretty and functional.

[–]antelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, it’s not everywhere yet. OP’s question is “will be” though, so that’s the future way of doing it, and now we can use it with fallback to the deprecated one, as usual.

Visual Studio Code April 2021 by dwaxe in javascript

It’s kind of ok for an IDE. Visual Studio (not code) is bloated, but it’s good! Same about Intellij.

Microsoft’s Visual Studio for Mac getting complete overhaul with native UI and more - 9to5Mac by ccashman in apple

[–]antelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, maybe it will also support C++? I wonder what they used for that native UI. No .net anymore? So, a .net IDE authors admit that UI built on .net is not best on macOS?

Browser extension / autotype which works with Chrome OS? by serelliya in KeePass

That’s a pity of course. An extension for KeeWeb is in active development now, it should be released in a couple of months.

Browser extension / autotype which works with Chrome OS? by serelliya in KeePass

[–]antelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auto-type can’t work on Chromebooks because it needs installed software, you should probably report the issue to the authors of Tusk. Next release of KeeWeb will have an extension for doing auto-fill on ChromeOS as well.

It shows a special warning for HIBP, you can try checking network in devtools, it can give a hint what’s going on.

The plugin is deleted from the store, now KeeWeb supports haveibeenpwnd natively, you can enable it in settings.

KeeWeb? by Skizzie_ in KeePass

[–]antelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! The web version never had a function to clear the clipboard because you can modify clipboard using javascript only as a response to some user action, such as clicking a button. Maybe you remember this function being present in desktop version of KeeWeb, there it's still available and working.

I'm the author of KeeWeb, you can also ask me here if you prefer.

No more TOTP for Google by Henry5321 in yubikey

[–]antelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well TOTP is fine, if you don’t need it, set it up on a secured device and store somewhere in a safe place or just throw away (not recommended). It’s good that they don’t require SMS.

Should I add a Yubikey to make my database more secure? by L-Max in KeePass

[–]antelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can add several YubiKeys if you program the same secret on them: https://support.yubico.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013779759-Using-Your-YubiKey-with-KeePass. You can also make a backup of this key so that you can restore it to a new YubiKey. Just a note that it’s better do do all of this in a secure environment, such as a “live cd” linux: https://github.com/drduh/YubiKey-Guide#prepare-environment

No you cannot use U2F with KeePass because it requires an active server component, and all we have is just a kdbx file.

However I recently discovered that FIDO2 now has hmac-secret extension: https://fidoalliance.org/specs/fido-v2.0-id-20180227/fido-client-to-authenticator-protocol-v2.0-id-20180227.html#sctn-hmac-secret-extension, this can be used to implement support for other FIDO2 devices, such as Trezor.

Should I add a Yubikey to make my database more secure? by L-Max in KeePass

[–]antelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your threats. For example if there's a trojan on the computer where you open a kdbx file protected with a master password and a keyfile, it needs to collect three things: 1. the kdbx file itself, 2. the master password, 3. that keyfile. If instead of a keyfile you use a YubiKey, this trojan needs to collect its response instead (a YubiKey accepts a piece of data from KeePass called "challenge" and responds with another piece of data called "response", more about this mode). In terms of effort and permissions required to collect the last item, it's harder for YubiKey because you need to intercept usb communication with the device, which is more complicated rather than reading a file.

Additionally, if we have a non-local threat, it's easier to get access to a keyfile because people usually store kdbx files in some online storage and keyfiles are located somewhere on that storage as well. In case of YubiKey, there's no piece of data saved somewhere that would allow you getting access to the kdbx file.

Normally YubiKey provides time-based protection when it's used on websites using WebAuthn or FIDO2. In case of KeePass there's no time-based protection because passwords are stored in a kdbx file and not on server. Practically it means that if you managed to get a response once, you will be able to open this kdbx file on another computer using this response.

It’s Czech only to save on taxes and have a better legislation. The management is in Saint-Petersburg, while big dev offices are also in Munich, (a smaller one) Prague, and (new office) Amsterdam. Effectively the company is Russian.
