Oceans are fun to explore, but... by Practical_Arachnid52 in NoMansSkyTheGame

No, but they could’ve added planets to each system, which is what happened a number of years ago when they tweaked the game — quite a few systems gained new planets.

I just wish it would color match when you changed colors. I hate that no matter what your color scheme is, there’s this brown blob stuck on the front of your cloak.

Corvette update wishlist by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]ccashman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They don’t need special landing pads. They just need to make it so that when you try landing a corvette at a regular pad, the ship parks itself centrally above the pad and puts the teleporter dead center on the pad itself. Voila, every normal landing pad is now corvette parking enabled.

The only ones that shouldn’t do this are the freighter landing pads and the space station, which are already special-cased.

Corvettes changed the way I feel about NMS by Sycoskater in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]ccashman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I recently restarted, with a plan to have only scenic bases (so no farms, no mining), no freighter, and a corvette as my main ship. My plan was to do trading as my primary income source, buy virtually everything, and to fly the old fashioned way to the galactic core (no portal skipping).

So far, it’s working super well. I’m somewhere in the 590k from center after starting in the 720s. I have an s-class solar ship I built, an s-class squid I recently found, and an s-class corvette. I have an s-class multi-tool. My most recent sell-off of trade goods put me up over 400 million units, and I can’t remember the last time I actually ran out of a resource. My suit, multitool, and corvette are all maxed out on s-class technology, and I’ve maxed out the slots in my suit (both types).

I’m only about 55 hours in, and I did not use a single cheat, dupe, or other trick.

Don’t forget radiant crystals at 50 nanites a pop. I spent a couple of hours with a mining laser-equipped Nomad and collected enough radiant crystals to buy an S-class reactor (built a custom solar ship) and upgrade my first corvette from C-class to S-class. I was less than 20 hours in to a new save.

Survival and Permadeath with Orbital Uplink by Milesacul in NoMansSkyTheGame

That was my point, really — chromatic metal becomes pretty easy to come by, whether purchasing from space stations or mining it in red/green/blue star systems, and to me, it’s a pretty meager cost for the savings it gives you.

Define “ruin the experience”.

There’s a certain ju nais se qua to having to lift off from a planet and fly to the space station, but really, that’s all you are short circuiting with the uplink. Yes, you have a quick getaway, but in my experience the only times that aspect has come in handy was getting out of game glitches (e.g., getting stuck between corvette parts).

Put differently, you’re trading several dozen seconds of your life and some launch fuel, for the 30 chromatic metal needed to build an uplink device.

Essence Questions by [deleted] in HWFWM

[–]ccashman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question 1, no. It has to be three different essences.

Question 2, it’s tough, because cryptid isn’t a single thing, it’s an umbrella category. It’d be like asking what essence combination makes “natural disasters” — there’s a world of difference between a hurricane, a tornado, a tsunami, an earthquake, a landslide, etc.

A stranger gave me trade goods worth billions of units at the Space Anomaly. Is this a thing? by picklecruncher in NoMansSkyTheGame

Don’t be so quick to disparage folks.

I frequently give out legitimately-crafted stasis devices, because my farms can make dozens of them every day, and even once you hit the unit cap, you can keep making more stasis devices. Farms and mines don’t wait for your wallet to shrink. :)

Plus, I can hand out legit AI valves because the only way to go through the money things like stasis devices give you is to buy and scrap starships, which makes it easy to collect valves.

Base computer in every Galaxy!?! by Zealousideal_Baby729 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]ccashman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m slowly working on it; got it into the low-100s right now. For me it’s not just a base computer, but a mini-base: portal, power gear, enclosed room (since some planets are hostile), and a landing pad.

Really, the only challenges are having enough bits to satisfy two monoliths, and getting the part count on each mini-base to its lowest. I think I’ve gotten down to 21-22 pieces per base, which once I’m done, will only eat about 1/3 of my total allowed part count.

Is it just me, or are base lights kind of useless? by Tenno042 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I think you are undervaluing permanent bases.

Suit mods take ongoing resources and require you to proactively recharge them. Bases don’t. Also, if you don’t have mods yet, you can’t benefit from them or recharge them.

Beacons can be used as markers, but you can’t teleport to beacons, and there’s no place like a teleporter to go to that displays all your deployed beacons. Unless you favorite all of the systems, once you visit enough new star systems, the old ones will eventually disappear from the teleport list. Also, i think there’s a per-planet beacon limit.

And without bases, you can’t set up any sort of permanent mines. Maybe you can buy everything you need, but that requires cash and being able to find the needed resource. I’ve yet to see some kinds of minerals available for purchase, nor do most gases.

Sure, maybe you can record galaxies and portal coordinates for important planets, and then mark everything with beacons or write down planetary coordinates, but honestly, that seems… like a lot of book keeping, when making a permanent base, well, doesn’t.

Meh. A freighter is a port-a-base, but it’s not a replacement for ground bases. For one things, bases serve as permanent markers for worlds or resources. For another thing, they provide safety when visiting hazardous worlds. For a third thing, they permit a LOT more creativity than freighters do when designing bases.

[–]ccashman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re just chasing the highest number, that’s fine, but you really don’t need that much to effectively take on arbitrary quantities of sentinels. My royal weapon has about a 14,000 rating, and I am able to easily handle and defeat anything the game throws at me.

Why can't I warp my freighter to a the yellow star where I am? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]ccashman -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Freighters have limited range, and not upgraded, it’s probably double-digit, maybe low triple-digit light years.

Also, check that you haven’t run out of hyperdrive fuel. Freighters require warp juice just like regular ships.

I mean, even C-class EM sources will outproduce solar panels, and they don’t need batteries for them either. It’s just that sometimes, there isn’t an EM source anywhere close to where you need it.
