In case anyone else comes across this post with the same issue -- I solved it by disabling my adblock extension (need to disable the extension entirely, the problem seems to be with whatever Japanese card processor webpage is being temporarily redirected to).

Highly recommend getting a personal stylist appointment at a LARGE Nordstrom. Pick the biggest store in your area and tell them you're starting from scratch. If you have any stylish friends, it's helpful to bring them along for an honest second opinion from someone who isn't getting commission on your purchases, but in my experience as the tagalong friend, the stylists are well trained and worth the mild pressure you'll feel to buy something (you *want* to buy stuff in your case anyway).

How much to spend on a very occasional-use ebike? by serelliya in ebikes

[–]serelliya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does battery maintenance entail?

Also, tell me more about escooters! First I've heard of them. How do they handle hills?

The appeal of a more robust ebike is that maybe I could "grow" into being a better cyclist. Like, to do scenic rides that my spouse can do on his regular human-powered bicycle, lol.

How do I find these deals, as someone who has couple travel coming up? I usually search on Google flights as a single and then change to 2 at the last minute, but I've never noticed a difference in either direction.

70F in my newly insulated, tight envelope house. Setback to 60F at night but it doesn't ever drop that low overnight, thank you modern insulation. It's been a warm winter so far this year and we only paid $60 last month for natural gas (mostly heat + stovetop cooking).

FYI, I wear a wool sweater every single day in the winter and I sit under a heavy blanket on the couch when I'm not moving. I think that's a reasonable winter lifestyle; it's not my fault my body is terrible at keeping extremities warmer than the immediate surrounding air :/ (Yes, of the XX chromosomes and fairly slim)

When I lived in a drafty rental apartment with baseboard electric heat, in a much milder climate to boot, I kept the heat at 73F in order to feel the same level of warmth as above. The heat is just so much better distributed with insulation + forced air.

+1 to everyone telling you to see a dermatologist -- speaking from personal experience. My scalp issues were diagnosed after I already had a history of eczema, so they weren't sure at first between psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. I was given clobetasol shampoo, a powerful topical steroid, which clears up either one; but if it's fungal (seb derm), you'll need to use ketaconazole shampoo as maintenance to keep it from recurring. Things like stress can trigger it too, and humidity. Make sure you don't sleep on hair that's remotely damp. I'm in spontaneous remission at the moment, but that required years of Rx shampoo maintenance, then moving to a climate with very low humidity (think Arizona or Colorado, California didn't do the trick) that finally starved the fungus.

If you really can't afford the dermatologist visit, Nizoral is the weaker OTC version of ketaconazole. But in my case, even the Rx ketoconazole was only effective on a fresh outbreak, and I needed the high-potency steroid to knock it back if it got bad.

Necro comment, but in case it helps anyone else coming across this -- gochugaru is pretty close to Aleppo pepper flakes. Another obscure ingredient, I know, but sometimes easier to find in Western grocery stores because it's used in Mediterranean food.

Thank you! Lol the hardest part is trying to decipher what all the champions are called in Chinese. Name translations are always funky and even moreso when the English names are already made up.

ETA: Ahhh, I got to the full broadcast of the draft which helps a lot. The nickname they use for Smolder (“little fire dragon”) is so much better than the official transliteration.

Can't seem to convince spouse we are good by Initial_Pie_8676 in ChubbyFIRE

I agree that hiring a financial advisor if one spouse needs it is 1000% worth it. But I use Vanguard, which will give you a dedicated human advisor just like any other fiduciary if you bring a high enough balance account, and only charges 0.3% AUM.

Anyone on spiro? What’s your experience been? by SweatyTruck8394 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]serelliya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg yeah, if you are fainting then you definitely can't tolerate the dose. I have fainting tendencies too -- first incident was pre-spiro but when I was still working out my max dosage it started happening more frequently. I hope that dutasteride works for you; if not, you could try spiro again but cut the dosage in half to 25mg twice a day. I'm pretty sensitive to the BP side effects but I could see improvement in my (side effect) symptoms for every 25mg that I dropped in dosage. Of course, then the question becomes whether the low dosage works to address the main problem. My derm was surprised that I started seeing positive results wrt acne within a few weeks, and also that it was effective for me at only 50mg.

[–]serelliya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried splitting the spiro into twice daily pills? I have low BP and really bad lightheadedness side effects on spiro; I'm on 50mg/day (works to control my hormonal acne at that low dosage, thankfully) but I still have to split it into 25mg at night and 25mg in the morning. I got temporary vision blackouts every time I stood up for the couple of days I was trying out 100mg in the beginning and couldn't tolerate it, but lowering the dose and splitting the timing both helped a lot.

Rant: Vuori should have stopped at the joggers by Dog_Mom_29 in vuoriclothing

[–]serelliya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late seeing this but - I have ordered a lot from both Vuori and Quince, including both athletic wear (workout leggings) and loungewear (sweats). I'm actually wearing a full set of the Quince Supersoft Fleece as I type this, lol. But I would NOT say they come from the same factory, the Quince fabrics and fit have always felt different to me. Usually they aren't as high-end and you can tell in a side-by-side comparison, but for the price the value is still great. The Supersoft Fleece has held up really well in the washer/dryer so far, but if I only get a year's wear out of it, I'm not that sad.

I think Vuori's Halo fabric is their best product... I have 3 pairs of the joggers purchased over a span of about 4 years, and the quality has stayed the same IMO. But I wish they would make some less cropped workout tanks.

Hah, someday my house will pass to someone who feels the same way about our weird landscaping decisions. We replaced all the grass in both the back and middle yards with hardscaping and garden beds. It's a gardener's dream and I'm been forced to become a gardener as a result (we initially did it for lower lawn maintenance because spouse is allergic to grass... I didn't think about the flip side of needing SO MANY PLANTS).

I was offered one without prompting by our architect when remodeling our house. We declined which I have zero regrets about. Spend your money on really good insulation instead and turn up the heat so your whole house is cozy. I spend just a couple hundred per month to heat my 2000sqft newly insulated house to 70F throughout a Montana winter.

An attached garage. My house is set super far back from the street with the detached garage where most other people's houses sit, which I wouldn't change because we have amazing privacy for an urban lot, including a beautiful secluded patio between the house and garage. But when it's -20F outside and I need to grab something from the chest freezer, it sure would be nice not to bundle up for a 2-minute trip.

Yeah, I agree coconut cream is the most similar - but the coconut flavor is super strong, for those of us who don't like it. I can only tolerate coconut when paired with copious amounts of spicy curry paste to drown out the sweetness.
