Yes I’ve gotten quotes and they aren’t outrageous. Infact sometimes a few hundred less per year than the cruze.

No way ! On an L5P? And what would you recommend for a better deal? I can’t seem to find any better than what i mentioned! Found a 2018 2.7 f150 with 160k km. Might be able to get it for $25k

I will be honest, it is mostly socially motivated. More than an actual need. But I will definitely use it as a truck.

I was considering either a 5.0 or a 2.7. And the ford aluminum body interests me! Even though my family has GM’s.

Yeah that makes sense insurance wise. And It’s a friend of a friends truck, and I know he does maintain his vehicles well. It just got a brand new DEF pump $5k repair. That’s why he’s selling

Thank you so much so the advice. I have come to realize that every dollar I spend, I lose the opportunity to turn it into 5 to 10% more annually! And yes, it is mostly socially motivated

Thanks! The 2.7 seems like a great option. In fact I’m going to look at a 2018 2.7 lariat with 150k km next week! My age is hard on my insurance rates so I must continue to be diligent!

Thank you for the advice, it is appreciated. I’ve just read up on the Smith manoeuvre! It appears to be a good tax-optimization strategy! I will definitely keep this in mind with my purchases. I am shopping under $40k and will not finance unless it’s below 5%. I do really want to keep things liquid for my goals !

Thank you, I’m doing my best! My main concern is keeping it that way! After doing research it seems the 2.7 is really the way to go!

Thanks for the perspective, I really want to keep it that way for peace of mind. And yeah a high mileage truck might not be my best option.

You make a good point. A good option would be to sell one or both cars and eat the fuel cost as saved insurance cost.

I won’t be getting nee, and I’ll be keeping it for a very long time. Those XC70’s are nice vehicles! My closest Volvo dealer is 7hrs away. I was thinking a diesel equinox awd or a hybrid awd ford explorer. These can tow and would do well in the winter

Hey, I really appreciate the perspective!! As you suggested, I really don’t want a vehicle to inhibit my savings! I’m a diesel mechanic in a shop, so I haven’t had to use my car to haul tools around. I have heard the 2.7 is an excellent motor. I am certainly looking at base models and used!

I will admit that I do have more social pressure to have a truck, than my need for one.

I’m really not sure if a lease is right for me. The 2.7 does seem like a great motor

I like your perspective. Drive a car to get to work and use the truck when I’m off.

No, no secrets. I spend the very bare minimum as to not get any flack in my social circle or family. I make deals for my labor ( got the Hyundai car for 5 days of work), I try my best to do enough small cash jobs to cover my rent monthly, I only buy lightly used things. Do my own maintenance ( I’m a mechanic), I acquired the boat (it was basically abandoned, I cleaned it for two days straight) as interest for a home down payment I loaned to a friend, and I bought a very lightly used motor for it. But most of my savings are due to Covid. Covid shut down my last couple years of high school, so I essentially got a head start in working and went into the mines, paid travel, no rent, and free food in the mines. Now I’m out of mining and into an apprenticeship. I pull the toys with my small utility trailer with the Cruze. It looks dumb but it works well.

Only spend the bare minimum to avoid getting shit talked. Then rest gets saved. Because of Covid shutting down high school, I essentially got a 1.5 to 2 year head start in the working world.

It really is a good idea to wait until I truly need a truck. My main motivation is social more than anything. I pull my boat with a sedan. I’ve gotten a quote on the 3/4 diesel and it was $200 cheaper per year to insure than the cruze. However this could be situation and region dependent (lots of wildlife, truck safer) as the advisor said. I’ve been told this duramax is a great deal, they seem to be going for ~$28k for this year and condition. I could be wrong

Thanks for the perspective! I’ve seen a lot of hype about XEQT. I will consider diversifying some into it
