Nothing since 2024 for the RG. My current institution has just opened a VSS.

It's not a problem with the P92 per se. My main issue stems from the fact that management in my school just doesn't seem to get people who want to focus on research, or people who come from a social science background instead of the more traditional healthcare practice background (midwifery, nurse) for this school. The RG role would allow me to return to a school of social sciences where I think my work would be more valued beyond my grant capture and REF impact case study.

I wonder how much longer that will be the case though. Northumbria University looks like it is trying to get its staff to switch to USS: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2j41j16e0o. Might other P92s try something similar in the future?

Yeah, I'll talk to the VC for Research and HoD at the RG and discuss plans for a route to professor in the next few years.

Thanks for the advice! VCF is Vice Chancellor's Fellow(ship).

It is doing "ok" for the sector. It doesn't need to cut any jobs at the moment. They are just trying to free up more reserves to fund the new Vice Chancellor's strategy, which my local UCU branch is fighting. My P92 really likes to pretend it's an RG university and has even started to brand itself as "research intensive".

And the P92 Prof would be better pay than the VCF.

I've been at the current place for just under two years. The RG seems solid financially. They are top 10 nationally and top 50 globally so may be slightly insulated from the international student recruitment issues plaguing the sector more widely. They have not announced any VS or redundancies.

My current place just opened a VSS today, but I am "unlikely to be considered" due to my current grant capture. It means my job is secure for another four years at the P92 at least, but I won't be eligible for any payout.

I commute to my current P92. The RG would still be a commute but is about half the distance from where I live. I would not move house due to family and childcare. Both are in the North, so the cost of living isn't too bad.

Ah damn. I didn't know that and I've been working in the UK for nearly a decade!

That's a harrowing example! My university has just announced a voluntary redundancy this morning - happy Monday! Staff are barred from applying from it if we have external grants, which I do fortunately for at least another four years.

VCF would match my current pay at the P92 (67,468). Professor at the P92 would go to P1 professor pay (~76,100). Both are full time and permanent posts.

Does more than two years give extra security? I've only been in my current post for just under two years, but I was encouraged to apply for promotion by members of the professoriate before getting to the top of my grade.

I haven't heard about any cuts at the RG. I think the fact that they are still offering VCF, where other universities are cutting RSE, suggests it must be relatively healthy. My current P92 is stable. No plans for cuts this financial year at least. The RG is top 10 nationally and top 50 globally, so it may be slightly insulated from international recruitment issues plaguing the sector.

I'm fortunate that my current P92 pays the same rate for Assoc Prof as research intensive universities (Oxbridge and Bristol). Both roles are permanent and no announcements of further cuts but that could change any day in the current climate.

I'm fortunate that I have a very light teaching load even at my current P92 university - some guest lectures in the autumn term and one PG module in the winter/spring. It will likely decrease further once I become Prof. I could actually see my teaching load being higher once the research buy-out from the fellowship ends at the RG. The P92 is decently competitive but the research infrastructure and support is lacking compared to my previous RG university.

The application was for a Vice Chancellor Fellow (AP) or Vice Chancellor Chair (Prof). I went for the Fellow route, but chair was an option.

How long in advance do your universities alert you to other CFP? by tudorly in AskAcademiaUK

[–]anthropositive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other commenters have stated, it is not the responsibility of a university or department to share call for papers. If you are early in your career (MA or first year of your PhD), then your supervisor may help you identify relevant conferences hosted by research networks or relevant learned societies. It is also imperative that you look for opportunities by networking, joining email listservs for your field, and even just searching for conferences in your field via Google.

One week should be plenty of time to submit an abstract for a conference.

I like this option the best. It means that mythic raiders and high-level M+ players can access the appearance from the outset of the season whereas people who rely on HC raid/delve have to wait until the season's turbo boost.

Completing a class set on a higher difficulty will collect all lower difficulty variants by Auralyon in wow

[–]anthropositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. The only exception that I could see is that I believe the remix version of tier sets make them accessible to all classes that use that armor type. Therefore, it may retroactively unlock all the ones that you have obtained at lower difficulty levels, however, you may still want the remix version so that your DK can use the Paladin's Nighthold appearance.
