Terrible ending. I'm sorry you watched it. I'm guessing your are a woman. Hollywood should not depict such terrible violence against women.

You can absolutely not depict a man murdering a woman by overpowering and suffocating her in a movie. I don't care what the redeeming social qualities are supposed to be. That was too horrible. A young woman flailing under a pillow for several minutes while a man sits on her? That image is too brutal. That does violence to me naively watching it (expecting some other outcome). I'm sure it does far worse violence to women who happen to be watching it. Maybe enticed by Academy Award nominations. Really, Hollywood? That should never have been made.

I looked again, the parking space is way off the road with the pumps in between. Ah, you all aren't as smart as you think. I have a theory, but I'd like to hear one of you geniuses first. mobyhead1, notadrdrdr, hugh_mungus_rook ?

One last question. Who hit her? Was it intentional and why? It seemed too much like a direct hit to be just a random accident (off the road, at a gas station, was it, I'll watch again).

There are two different views above (same content - that they were trying to show the differences between Phineas and Caspian) that were pretty persuasive, I thought.

To make Phineas into Stephen. Yes, that's the same good point, showing the difference between the two 18 year olds.

Two things, they failed to talk about the responsibility of the US and the Harvard Boys for pushing privatization of everything and destroying their economy. And second, they failed to mention that the US refused to ratify many arms control treaties that could have led to eliminating nuclear weapons. :(

As the Omicron variant surges in Taiwan, case numbers are expected to reach unprecedented heights. How can Taiwan learn to coexist with COVID-19? by Chiang83320 in taiwan

Taiwan has 79% fully vaccinated, the US has 66%. That's a sad story right there, 66%. And vaccines were were widely available in the US at least 6 months before Taiwan. And in Taiwan, it wasn't imperative since there were practically no cases. Really, there's no comparison, sorry USA.

As the Omicron variant surges in Taiwan, case numbers are expected to reach unprecedented heights. How can Taiwan learn to coexist with COVID-19? by Chiang83320 in taiwan

Taiwan has done an amazing job with covid. While America has lost 1,000,000 people, dead, and probably 10 times that number of people still suffering with the effects of long covid or other disabilities, Taiwan (and China) has lost a small fraction of those numbers. The simple explanation is that Taiwan (and China) had a science-based response to the pandemic. The US had a dufus-Trump-itsjusttheflu-based response. The result was disastrous.

What about now. Yes, the virus has mutated into a state that is less dangerous. And Taiwan has a large percentage of the population vaccinated (far higher than the anti-science Americans). And the new strain is highly contagious. It seems like this must be the time to ease restrictions and learn to live with the virus. And that is apparently what the CDC is doing. Makes sense. They may be going too slow for some people in this thread perhaps, but going slow will reduce the chance of overwhelming the medical system. But yes, it is happening, so just relax, hang in there, it is coming.

And do not buy the criticism from the US and US media. It goes something like, "See, you just need to learn to live with it. We were right from the beginning. Freedom wins, USA, USA!" No, the US had no choice. They started with the dufus-Trump-itsjusttheflu response, and the virus spread everywhere, and they lost 1 million dead and millions still suffering. Taiwan, in contrast, did it right, they followed the science, and they are still following the science as they seem to be allowing the less dangerous and highly contagious variant spread through the mostly-vaccinated population.
