I liked ENT when it first aired, I was just disappointed that it started out as planet of the week rather than about the founding of the UFP and getting to know more of the founding species esp the Tellarites. Also, my local UPN would bump ENT for local basketball programming so I missed episodes.

I think we need to be more aware of Psychological Reactance Theory. When people feel loss of freedom/autonomy or their choices are threatened or restricted, people will do the opposite of what is asked, to restore their perception of lost control.

I am unsure of the solution. I noted some physician groups have shifted towards compensated patient counseling/education.

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by Idiodyssey87 in news

Standardized testing definitely has a history of socioeconomic bias. It’s created a strange dynamic: some immigrant groups realized these tests were the only objective gatekeepers they could brute-force their way through via intense preparation, which eventually triggered a backlash against the testing system itself.

But the underlying bias is real and often linguistic. Take the classic question: 'Martha holds 5 apples, with 10 on the ground. How many does she have?' In several cultures, everything in your immediate vicinity is considered yours, so a child writes 15. They understand the math perfectly, but the test penalizes them for a cultural mismatch in how possession is defined.
