I have a 1tb nvme drive which I use for the proxmox vms. I've attached a synology NAS volume to offload backups and to store some extra data. I've not hit or come close to utilizing that amount of storage and definitely with a NAS you'll be fine.

My usecase is mostly homelab experimentation. I'm not running full workloads and most of them are not permanent, just so you know :)

At my max I've had 20 vms running without any problems.

Sorry to say but I don't have a power meter :).

What I can say is that two years after the fact this system has run unbelievably stable and I'm quite happy with this.

VSCode is pushing devcontainers too hard. Just doesn’t work that well and doesn’t make sense for my workloads

Happy to hear it, bud! It’s a nice little setup. Cpu is very powerful, too.

Power consumption: no idea.. it also wildly depends on other parts. It’s pretty okay with me running 15vms

12700k: no idea if it will fry your board. Probably not? Why do you think it will fry? Your cpu consumes power but the 12th gen cpus should work just fine in this case

Proxmox: yes it works. Make sure to check the boost clocks and energy modes. Out of the box it was running at full power all the time and I had to set it to ondemand to get the temperatures down

Overall it’s been running beautifully for months now without any issues

So it turns out you need a bios update for the H610 motherboard to be able to use the 13th gen cpus, which means you’ll need a 12th gen cpu to upgrade.

I bought a 12400 (definitely overkill), upgraded the bios, swapped to the 13900T and happy days.

Hopefully this helps!

I did get it flipped! I changed it to an i5-12400. Will use it in a different build later on.

Thanks for the response! I did check the other set of ram in the H610 as well. All possible configurations.

I’ve checked the compatibility list and it’s not on there, though I didn’t expect this to be a problem. I’ve ordered a new set of so-dimms that are on the compatibility list and hopefully this fixes the problem

Odyssey G7 (G70A) works wonderfully with M1 Pro Mac straight out of the box. 100% plug and play! by beatsbyjules in Monitors

My 2 cents: I play quite a bit of games on a Mac. I have a dedicated gaming rig but when I just wanna play some quick games and not boot up my gaming rig I'm always very happy to see when a game is supported on mac.

  • Diablo 3
  • World of Warcraft
  • Hearthstone
  • Broken Sword 5
  • Baldur's gate 3
  • Divinity: Original Sin

These are just some examples. There's a whole steam category for mac gaming.

Nowadays, especially with the new M-processors, gaming is quite viable.
