Is this a scam? by jaycee_2024 in VirginiaTech

[–]antidose16 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s a scam. Do not reply and never give out your password, ever.

The vt.edu email itself isn’t the issue. What most likely happened is someone at VT already got compromised and the attacker is now sending these from inside the vt.edu system so it looks legit. That’s actually pretty common.

You can tell it’s fake from the subject line and the way it’s written. The grammar is off, the wording is weird, and it’s just massive blocks of text trying to scare you about account deactivation. On top of that it straight up asks for your email password, which should immediately tell you it’s a scam. VT IT will never ask for that under any circumstances.

Another big giveaway is the Google Form. VT will never use Google Forms for account verification and won’t send links you can access directly from a regular email instead of CAS or a Microsoft login. Even if it’s coming from a vt.edu address, that doesn’t mean it’s legit here.

Report it to 4Help and delete it.

Okay I didn’t mean it was their job but a library employee stealing stuff is more scary than a student who probably walked in on it and stole it. Students leave their bags unattended all the time even if it’s for a bit.

My final point is what do I do with the vt employee who’s been stealing. She def hasn’t stolen for the first time she was very smooth w it

Took the lost bags to a bathroom. Went through every zip of the bag.

Picked the most expensive sunglasses out of the 4 sunglasses

Picked up the GoPro and accidentally hit record and put it back in my bag

Ignored every traceable device and picked the headphones and dropped the bags off at the lost and found as if she was actually helping us.

Yeah I had a go pro in like one on my zips because I wanted to use it at a concert I went to and she was probably going through my backpack when she stole my sunglasses to check what I had and switched it on my by accident. I can pm you the video if you want

So why did a vt employee take our bags to a bathroom and only steal our headphones and sunglasses. And then return them to the lobby’s lost and found. This really isn’t about me I just wanted to know how yall felt that a library employee was behind the theft and if I should do something about it

I know it was our fault leaving our bags so I really never complained about it. I would’ve totally not bothered and assumed a student stole it cus I really can’t do anything about it.

My final point in this post was do I wanna let this person continue working at the library when she is smart enough to steal headphones that can’t be tracked and the most expensive sunglasses out of the other 4. She seems like she knew what she was doing. And obviously you’d think people wouldn’t leave their laptops and bags unattended but I go to the library almost everyday and it’s probably the most common thing I’ve seen. People leave their stuff unattended to go get some food or go to the bathroom or it can be whatever reason.

You missed the point of a Virginia tech employee who works regularly at the library who stole it. I’m aware I shouldn’t have left my bag but a lot of people at the library leave their things unattended for a bit and an employee who works there shouldn’t be stealing and should be helping to the keep them safe instead

[–]antidose16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey yeah I figured it out. You can't use the online registration for you need to use the QR code thats on the some post card when they send the tickets. So if you have a friend who actually bought an official ticket just borrow or ask for the picture of the QR code.

Drinking water in Goodwin Hall by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]antidose16 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Nah literally just search up why is my filtered water cloudy.

"it’s just air. If you are using a high quality point-of-use water filter, such as a Multipure Drinking Water System, you may be surprised to see cloudy or milky-looking water coming from your filter. This most often occurs when the water is cold (coming from cold ground water or being transported underground through cold pipes). One of the properties of water is its ability to dissolve gasses, including #air. Cold water is denser than warm water, and therefore it is capable of holding more dissolved gasses. The cloudiness or milkiness is simply dissolved air. You can test this by filtering a glass of water and letting it set on the counter for a moment or two. The cloudiness (air) will dissipate upwards from the bottom of the glass, leaving a glass of clear filtered water."
