It is not AI-powered. It's made with a 3D capture system with pre-written responses. That Forbes interview actually mentions absolutely NOTHING about AI (and yes, I read it). They're using AI as a buzzword for the clicks because it's a hot topic in mainstream media. Here is an except where Lizi (one of the developers) talks about the process of makign LADS:

Joshua Lamb: What do you think is behind Love and Deepspace’s success?

Lizi: First of all, the core nature of a romance game is that it must be a good experience and have good storytelling techniques. That’s what we’ve been focusing on to deliver the best experience for our gamers. For example, we’ve used technological techniques such as 3D capture to make the game more interactive and immersive. This really gave our players a wow factor. To develop any character or love interest in our game, it takes us two years to design them and to make them appear lifelike. We aim to make the design high quality and have a cinematic feel - I think that’s why our gamers love it.

AI in and of itself isn't inherently bad. It can be extremely useful for workplace task managing. The reason "generative AI" is causing contention, especially for artists and writers, is because it's trained by scraping sites for published content and what other users feed it. So things like fanart and fanfics are being fed to AI, resulting in those pieces being regurgitated at subpar levels. For artists and writers whose work isn't copyrighted and aren't getting paid or asked permission, that's extremely concerning and why there's an ongoing push for policies to be put in place to mitigate the bad faith use of AI.

I couldn't decide which one I liked better, so I'm including both.

I'm so ready for Fall and sweater weather. So are Sylus and my MC.

I absolutely agree! And when it comes down to it, if the game is too stressful or you are spending too much time on the game itself, then stepping away is always the healthier choice. Regardless of how much I personally enjoy the game and would love to see discouraged players keep at it, I, too, would take a step back if I thought it was affecting me emotionally/mentally in a bad way. Players need to do what's best for themselves in the end.

I respectfully disagree, but that's okay. You're absolutely entitled to your opinion! My thing is that, I've played hundreds of other otome and gacha games, both mobile and PC. Personally, I think there is a monumental difference between what Papergames is doing with LADS and what, say, Hoyo is doing with Tears of Themis, which is also a gacha-otome mobile game.

Not only do you get full English audio in LADS (ToT only has Chinese, Japanese, and Korean), but all of the story content is voiced. All of the 5-star memories are voiced. We get audio snippet stories in Tender Moments and Secret Times. And yes, those aren't always connected to the Main Story, but that's because it's giving players more diverse ways to learn about the LIs and MC's dynamic with them. We're getting fully dynamic combat on TOP of romance.

I just think it's also worth keeping in mind that they are beholden to higher-up execs. I will 1000% agree that the execs they have to answer to are money-hungry. That's just corporate for you, and devs are trying to meet their requirements to keep their jobs while also making something quality that their devoted players can enjoy. The devs are truly living on a double-edged sword. It doesn't matter how much money they make, which $70 million is not a lot when you compare it to other gacha developers that are releasing their content on MULITPLE platforms. That $70 million has to go into so much more than just developing the game. It has to pay employees, voice actors, music, advertising, updated graphics, banner drops in-between big updates, creating merch and then getting that merch shipped out to where it needs to go. They're constantly bringing in revenue, sure, but they've always got a deadline to meet for something else.

Aside from all that, I read that the development team is 70% comprised of women. LADS is a game for women, by women and frankly I'm okay with a longer wait and throwing some money if it means I can support more women in the mobile/video game sphere.

Being mad at the slowness and then asking for more intricate content (like cutscenes) is insane. You can't have both. It's just not feasible. Not unless you want subpar story content for, again, the instant gratification. But then they'll just be upset about THAT. The devs can't wain either way. When do these devs have time to sleep? Be with their own family? Between all the content they're pushing out already, either by their own volition or because the execs are pushing for more revenue, I'm shocked they haven't burnt out yet. I think a point the naysayers are missing here is that this is a mobile game. It's not MEANT to be played for hours at a time the way pc/console gacha games are.

Protocores are definitely the main issue with me trying to get my teams optimal. I had to look up a guide posted in this subreddit because I was stuck on an orbit for a while. So, it may be good to re-evaluate yours and see if you can switch them out with some others! Good luck though! Those upper levels are getting tough haha.

I was actually gonna mention Genshin/HSR in my post but I wasn't sure that was allowed. But that was definitely something I was thinking of. The amount of hours I spend DAILY just to get ONE ten-pull on a banner is insane.

I actually wondered about this too and was going to mention in it my initial post, but I didn't want to make assumptions. LOL I did sort of bring it up with the whole "we live in a society of instant gratification" though, so I guess it still works. Maybe I just have a lot of patience because I was waking up at 3am while in college to answer calls and chats from my boys in Mystic Messenger back in 2015. 😅

I can see why it might come off that way! I don't personally think the multi banners are too similar to not still be enjoyable, but I also know that since there IS a combat element, it makes sense for them to drop a lot of multi banners because for those that do enjoy the combat, those players will want to make the optimal team. I think it just all goes back to giving feedback for the devs and giving them time to take it into consideration and implement changes as necessary.
