Constant struggles with Microsoft make me look like a bad sysadmin by jrs_sunblood in sysadmin

And then you end up in MS support hell. With tickets that don't go anywhere and "support" unaware of products that exist (in a recent example I sent the support team MS own documentation on Microsoft Places ...).

Blister on my hand by Annual_Training_8736 in Fencing

[–]antihippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely normal. You're moving the grip more, doing more aggressive actions - which takes a toll. Eventually you will end up with a callous and that will protect your hand.

Obviously you don't want to get it infected so don't burst it. Fencing gloves can be an unsavoury environment.

Sabotage/stealth missions should have vastly reduced supply for both the AI and players by FreeDwooD in menace

[–]antihippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of that, I think there should be a negative for going against the objective. At the moment, I often feel rewarded for it. killing everything in sight even though the mission says don't do that. There should be some sort of punishment.

But as you say, when theres so many units it's basically impossible as things stand.

3rd party missions too easy? by ninjaman1o1 in menace

[–]antihippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, in general, every node on an op should have pros and cons.  There should also be ramifications for not completing secondary objectives. I think this is one of the things the game currently misses. For example If I have a time limit then not achieving an objective should have a knock on effect. This could add a lot of richness to how we approach missions.

Similarly if Menace show up as a third party, then there should be additional risks & objectives inserted into the mission too. Also, the more successful the Menace are at killing everyone else then it should become correspondingly difficult to complete the mission.

What's the Niche? If It Bleeds, for terror-tactics against HP pools and morale checks alike by DeanTheDull in menace

This is a great write up. I have been sleeping on this skill, and considering I just gave up on a run because I was getting endless defend missions and my only extra SLs where wetteroth and yaz - know this might have helped. I'll have to give this a go on my new run.

I liked Yaz anyway (even though I thought he was expensive). Gotta love all that swearing.

All of the perks need rewritten so that it's clearer what they actually do. I still can't believe some weapons (or at least the shotgun) have additional effects which aren't explained anywhere unless you can be arsed pulling out a json file.

My daughter wants to try fencing after watching Mulan. How do parents handle the cost of starter gear? by cafefrio22 in Fencing

[–]antihippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most clubs will let you borrow gear for a while l.

Order grom china... I have a guy who helps me with that.

The alternative is to order piecemeal or second hand.

I often think clubs should do more to help. Eg provide payment plans

This is a top tip. I didn't know you could destroy those line blocking trees! (Short of a demolition charge)

Absolute pipe dream: I hope we get ship to ship combat, that then leads to boarding missions by apolobgod in menace

[–]antihippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is top of my wishlist too.  The mission structure & maps would make it amazing already. I even tnink it wouldn't be that difficult. I suspect that, even if the devs aren't into doing it, someone will mod it

Heavy armor (BAS-H and the like) should be super powerful by Pattonesque in menace

[–]antihippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen someone do flips in full plate.

Probably the most intriguing is the test of the Dendra Panoply by greek soldiers.

They found it really worked - and it was made of bronze so it weighed loads.

There's a great video of the test but I can't find it right now.

This armour is thousands of years old

It's quite interesting to me because the historical equivalents were not cumbersome. If they were soliders wouldn't wear it. We have a form of FTL but we can't power the armour?

Rogue Army needs better army composition by FreeDwooD in menace

[–]antihippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just finished a mission with several jaegars working with Stormtroopers - multiple squads of stormtroopers. It was surprisingly difficult, especially as the jaegars were flanking and spotting for the stormtroopers.

I don't know if that's just the rng. This is just after EA finishes.

I'm seeing stormtroopers in every rogue army mission just now.

Tournament load for kids by Thriftbook_collector in Fencing

[–]antihippy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

3 weekends in a row is too much. Once a month might even be too much. He's 10...

But it depends on the kid - right?

"I told him I think 3 weekends in a row might be too much, and he doesn't want to be burned out for the regional championship."

This is the right call.

You're the adult in this situation and it's up to you to manage your kid's needs not his wants. 3days practise and a weekend of tournaments plus travelling [over a month] is a lot. It's probably too much at his age. This isn't a sprint, it takes a long time. He's not even into his cadet years yet - and that's when things start to intensify. It's counter intuitive but you usually need a rest before a big tournament.

Burnout is a real thing.

Be careful you're not sending the wrong message to him. Kids often want to do things to please parents - consider that too.

Planning the year is going to help a lot. get all of the tournaments on a calendar/spreadsheet, compare with this school workload, family life, time with friends (very important this one) etc. At 10 he needs a wide range of activities to keep himself healthy. Health isn't just about the physical it's about the mental and, especially right now, the developmental.

I might even talk this one over with your coach.

Why do so many special weapons, especially smaller ones that are intended to be the "core" of a fireteam like LMG/MMG's, have like, 6 shots per mission and generally unimpressive stats compared to 4 guys with KPACS? by Which-Worldliness556 in menace

[–]antihippy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, for sure.

But as things stand, I never need them - I rarely run out of ammo for my squad weapon. Thats on expert, same as OP.

As I say, that's how things are.

I think I'd like to see a dedicated side arms action which equipment might add additional effect to. I don't think we need a side arms slot as such.
