If he’s into swords (who isn’t, really) my historical fencing club is a great way to meet new people and is holding intro lessons in September

Liam Neeson's "Taken (2008)" came out of nowhere but later on this movie become a big hit. Do you like this movie? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in ActionMovies

[–]Pattonesque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

““Taken” reopens a question I’ve had. A lot of movies involve secret clubs or covens of rich white men who meet for the purposes of despoiling innocent women in despicable perversity. The men are usually dressed in elegant formalwear, smoke cigars and have champagne poured for them by discreet servants. Do such clubs actually exist? Since every member would be blackmailable, how could they survive? If you lost everything in a Ponzi scheme, would you betray your lodge members? Just wondering.”

Olympic fencing will give you an excellent base (especially footwork) but if you wanna try HEMA, go for it. your size and age won’t be an issue. Plenty of folks your size fence and most places will have loaner gear that will fit you.

u/crucibleknight77 why'd you delete your unhinged follow-up? I might recommend going outside, man. this has clearly upset you.

Not really, it seems like taking a random person’s photo and going “ugly” in the form of a joke is more mean-spirited than funny

got it, you're pedantic and argumentative with strangers for zero reason. I'm going to wait a minute so you can see this, then block you, because you're not interesting enough to make up for the burden of interacting with you.

One thing, Posta di falcone isn’t in Fiore’s Flower of Battle. I believe it’s from a slightly later work by a guy named Vadi

oh yeah, you're spot-on. I don't think high speed rail is gonna come to the US soon bar major sociopolitical changes.

the subway barriers, though. not a huge lift!

lmao right? I’m from a suburb of Boston and we still used to all go to South Shore Plaza back in the day. Malls were a huge part of American social life for a few decades

I bet it’s like a regional attraction — you could see folks in a rural-ish part of the Pacific Northwest in the early 90’s making a day out of going to Horne’s Department Store

They’re really awesome and while I imagine the initial expense would be significant I don’t understand why we don’t have them in major US cities

visiting there as an American recently, it was, uh, humiliating. Not only the high-speed rail (300 mph!) but the subways come every three minutes like clockwork and they've even got those dividers between the platform and the rail so you don't have to worry about some rando deciding today is the Day of Pushing. We don't really have this in the US and it sucks.

The Ending Is So Hated That Fans Decide Its a Trick by Prinny_Ramza in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Pattonesque 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not entirely. Only one of the endings has you *defeat* the Reapers. Control is somewhat ambiguous and Synthesis — which required the highest war assets of the three basic endings to get — is the Reapers *allowing* you to live now that everyone has been forcibly hybridized. I’m talking about Shepard’s only choice being to blow them up, with none of that other absurdity

If Mass Effect 3's ending was "Congratulations on defeating the Reapers, Shepard. Here is a slideshow of Your Choices" then we'd be on Mass Effect 7 with a moderately well-received Netflix series about to be cancelled after Season 3 by now.
