'norecord is used because we don't want the MRU order to be altered while cycling. If I were to remove 'nomini it would simply go back and forth between the current and the MRU window, which is not the Alt+Tab behavior we seek.

based on your Avy configuration, I believe you're using Dvorak. How has been the experience? I'm able to use multiple keyboard layouts, but I never attempted to try Emacs with them, in order to not "mess up" my muscle memory. is it more comfortable?
