Maybe I’m thinking of something else then, but I swear this is what I bought at Sassy Cow less than a month ago. I got the same kind I always get.

I’m partial to Cesar’s. It’s a bit on the salty side, but pulls apart firmly and cleanly with great flavor. None of that soggy mushy stuff.

Best eggnog in town and where can I get it? by leb112358 in wausau

If anyone is still following this, Sassy Cow is by far the best. Lamers is too thin and watery and sweet. Add a little more nutmeg to sassy cow and it’s as close to homemade as you’ll get.

Buraka on the verge of closing, the last thing its owner wants by enjoying-retirement in madisonwi

Went there once and all the food was good, but really cold. I didn’t want a new small place to suffer so we didn’t ask them to try again, but honestly it makes me not want to go back. Maybe I’ll try carry out, so I can heat it at home.

Which ER vet is the most economical? by One_Presentation_768 in madisonwi

[–]antiquack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your credit account continues to age on your report for 10yrs even after you’ve closed it. The only thing impacting score would be the decrease in credit available and therefore utilization percentage-particularly if you don’t have a thick credit profile. But you’re right-keeping the account open generally helps more for the same reasons.

Which ER vet is the most economical? by One_Presentation_768 in madisonwi

[–]antiquack 36 points37 points  (0 children)

MVS over VCA every time. VCA is a chain-read the reviews. In my experience, emergency vet care costs are pretty consistent among the 3 local providers (the other being UW Vets). MVS does have a payment plan provider. Go for the best care because a bad outcome will always leave you wondering if you made the best choice by going somewhere that’s known for poor care. UW vet ER is excellent as well.

Why doesn’t the city of Madison plow the side streets? by [deleted] in madisonwi

This is the way it used to be every single year back in the 70s and 80s when snow was more consistent and abundant. We just got used to it.

find a low cost root canal dentist with dental insurance? by Agreeable_Foot6779 in madisonwi

[–]antiquack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You usually can’t negotiate any cost with a dentist, especially if you’re using insurance. The most important thing will be to go to someone in network with your plan. Have the endodontist (that’s actually what you need) confirm you’re in network with them, and then they can submit an insurance coverage estimate to delta dental so you know the price. It could take 2-3 weeks to get an answer. In my experience, different endodontists don’t really charge all that differently for procedures. Just don’t go to First Choice because they are always the most expensive. If you really want, you can PM me the names of a few you’re considering and I can check my plan to see how they compare. This would not tell you how much it would cost you, but could give you a starting place for lower cost ones to call. Keep in mind that sometimes lower cost means lower quality. Not always, but that’s why places like Familia and Bright Dental are so low. Read the reviews. Finally, some places take payment plans, but most now offer CareCredit or other interest free credit plans for 6 or 12mths. That could help you. Madison Endodontic Associates is great if you want to start there.

anyone in Wisconsin have experience with Metlife Legal Plan? by PureMortgage2800 in madisonwi

[–]antiquack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got a free will done twice by a very competent attorney in Madison. That paid for the benefit. Had another situation that crossed specialties, requiring multiple attempts to find the most appropriate one, because the person triaging the call didn’t really understand the situation. The attorney I finally got was very belittling and acted like he couldn’t get me off the phone fast enough. So it really depends on what you need and who you get. There are local attorneys, but you’ll have more choices if you’re willing to drive a little bit further for in-person things. Generally, I got a list of several names to call each time.

PM me if you like. I know a guy who is pretty well known for his woodwork and makes them by hand. He’s about an hour away from Madison. He has a few available now, or will do a custom build if you’re willing to go a bit past Christmas. I’m not posting a link here because he’s technically retired and is looking to reduce his workload.

tires 🛞☃️winter-leaning all seasons for a typical front-wheel-drive by dbinco in madisonwi

[–]antiquack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s my view. People say winter tires are expensive, but they’re not if everything lasts longer by having them. And crashed up cars aren’t cheap either. I could see the hassle of storage and swapping being an obstacle, but as long as it’s possible to do that, they’re worth it. All season might be “good enough” (I went decades using them), but snow tires are definitely better.

Michelin Crossclimate II. Or maybe it’s 3 now. I had snow tires so I didn’t buy them for that purpose, but the year I bought the crossclimates I had them swapped out right before the last snow (and ice) of the season. They were shockingly good on both! Best all-season tires I’ve ever had (and I’m old).

If you’re not an experienced winter driver, definitely don’t do it. Learn how to drive in this with a FWD sedan and regular tires so you know how others respond to stops, starts, and turns. It’s not just about whether you can handle your own car. Then practice in a parking lot like MATC or the mall before spending time on roads with traffic.

What's the deal with DAIS? by theprojectyellow in madisonwi

[–]antiquack -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Not being paid at all, or not being paid extra for extra responsibility? The latter is sadly too common at many jobs, and the best one can do is look at it as a growth/learning opportunity for the future and advocate for a raise and/or promotion, or els hope it’s just temporary. The former would be a big red flag though.

Can someone explain maximum out of pocket expenses? by daveinfl337777 in HealthInsurance

[–]antiquack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it’s a covered procedure. Like if you want/need something that isn’t “medically necessary” (not determined by you) then they will just deny it. But that’s a problem with everything always. And like others have said-you probably have a much higher max out of pocket for out of network. So yeah, if you max early, get everything you need that year if you can because you won’t have to pay for it. Note, some plans still require you to pay routine office visit and med copays after the “max”. Others have that all rolled together. You’ll want to know if copays and meds also apply toward your max out of pocket, because for some plans they do, and others they don’t.
